So letting Lin go and signing Felton is about winning?

exactly. It's not like they let Lin go so they could sign CP3 or Howard. Lin helped them turn the season around and was key in their best winning streak last year.

Your logic fails and you sound like a politician's soundbite. Lin being a brand and Lin being JUST a brand are two entirely separate concepts. This certainly proves that Lin is a brand, but that's something we all knew.

He's not JUST a brand, he's also a pretty decent basketball player that led the Knicks to seven straight wins without their two star players last season.

How many players in the NBA that you sign could help you win a championship? Lebron? Durant? CP3? Dwight?

Lin signed a very reasonable contract @ $8 million/year. $8 million per year for a 20 PER PG is a good deal. Look at how much players like Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva got in the old CBA. Lin's contract is a bargain compared to their's.

Lin is getting a lot of backlash because the Knicks didn't match a perfectly reasonable contract because they overpaid for players like Amare and are in the red. I don't understand why they blame Lin for his contract. It's not his fault the Knicks always had poor money management and then decided last minute that they can't "afford" Lin's perfectly fair contract.

The Rockets contract cleverness pushed the Knicks out of the realm of a pure basketball decision. It was now a decision, not fully justified by what Lin could do on the court, but marketability. Surely, the Knicks looked at the business angle, but opted to pass. Perhaps, the Knicks were correct from both a business and basketball standpoint, but Houston had a better feel for the Chinese factor after dealing with Yao Ming.

To me this is a no brainer. Lin is the only Chinese in the league, this gives you a huge advantage. Like a huge majority of the German NBA fans are Mavs supporters because of Nowitzki...

We should expropriate billionaires. There's no social need for billionaires in Greenwich.

do it like monopoly board game. luxury tax. wealth tax of 40% for all large estates. capital gains tax for large gains should be higher than income tax for wage slaves. etc.

go back to the 1950s under Ike when top cap gains was 90%.

I think it's obvious now that letting Lin go was a remarkably poor business decision. Even if the Knicks thought Felton was better, they could have still matched that offer and kept Lin on the bench while easily recouping the costs of Lin's contract + luxury tax. Knicks front office managed the incredible feat of being in a no-lose situation, and then losing anyways. Absolutely incredible.

The idea that Lin contract was bad was always wrong. He is paid about what a starting PG gets. Lin is much better than Jameer Nelson who got 8 million a year. Lin is underpaid his first 2 years and gets a balloon the third to make up for it. The Knicks should have known that if Lin was only eligible for over 5 million the first 2 years that the third year would likely be around 12-15 million to make up the difference.

The Knicks better hope that Lin is not the real deal. The fan base will never forgive them if Lin becomes an elite player. If your like me and pretty much consider Lin a rookie. Then a rookie that puts up his numbers is very likely to become a top 10 position player. Felton better be great. If he stinking it up the Knicks will be forced to trade him mid-season because the fan base will take everything out on them. Imagine if Lin is putting up 20 and 8 and 2 on the Rockets and Felton is stinking it up.

Jimmy Dolan didn't make his billion. His father Charles Dolan made the billion with Cablevision and then bought his boy a sports team to play with as a reward for cleaning up his act and rehabbing. Jimmy Dolan is a billionaire because he was born one, not because he knows how to make money. It's unfortunate for Knicks fans that the toy Charles bought for his little boy to play with was MSG.
