Well in fairness to the OP, there will be an evolution in basketball right?

Not as specific as game styles/skills as with the OP, but it's not far to imagine seeing five 7-footers as the starters for a team by 2080?
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

Yes, good post.

As for every player being 7 feet, who knows? Maybe we'll see it. The league's average height hasn't changed much since the 60's however, so it would take a big burst. Maybe with the continued globalization of the game it could be possible.

As for people mocking my one handed shot prediction: one handed shots have been a part of the game for 100 years. It's called a hook shot. Maybe I should have said that hook shots will become much more commonplace, and may be shot in other manners than a hooking motion.

Also, Kobe's sort of utilized a post game from the 3 point arc already. But I bet you at some point a player will come around with a great post game from out there.

EDIT: You know what I wanna see? A chase down block where the blocker jumps from the FT line.

people will laugh at centres not knowing how to dribble or shoot the same way people now laugh at guards who couldn't dribble w/their off hand

OP you do realize that the whole point of offense is finding the highest percentage shot right? Some people seem to forget that.

I also think that they will play outdoors and people can bring their pets.

The genetically altered tongue will become a major part of the game as steals will no longer require using just your hands. But the best part of all this is that people will be able to watch the action on the assfault with their pets.

Come on people, show some love to this post. As for the OP, dude, your average NBA player's post game and fundamentals did actually take a backwards in the last decade or so. The human body will not evolve that much, if any, in 50 years. What you are saying is certainly not totally impossible, i mean, there could be a guy with the best eye-hand coordination ever, who could theoretically do those things, but it would really require a miracle. Said person would need to have great athleticism, height, etc. and he would even have to think about developing his game that way. Chances are pretty slim even 1 guy will be able to do that, and you think the whole league would follow suit? That's just not realistic.

If someone developed a reliable post game from beyond the arc he would be deadly. The whole offense can be run through him so effectively. Honestly that's the one thing I can see happening in 50 years from all the things you said.

A chilling look into the dystopian future the NBA holds.

Books will be burned.

Children will be enslaved into genetic modification programs, forced to learn ambidextrous 3 point line post moves.

Freedoms will be at a minimum.

Skateboards will have rockets.

Interstate travel will only be allowed with valid multi-passes.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm scared.

i think the real evolution in basketball will be a positional one where specialists will be seen as weak links, like what's going on with soccer right now.

if you look at fc barcelona, almost all of their starters werer trained as midfielders and learned to shoot, pass, dribble, defend at an early age - regardless of physical attributes.

i think this is where basketball is going, where you won't have any PG, SG, SF, PF and C but rather G, F, C. all guards should be able to set up the offense AND play off the ball. forwards should be able to play on the wing AND on the block. you'll still have a few real C (like you still have a few real strikers in football like van persie or falcao) but they will have to produce a lot to justify their use, no more collins brothers.

that's what miami is kinda doing right now. in crunch time, wade won't play point guard and bosh won't play center. they'll just have 2 guards and 3 forwards on the floor: wade, allen, james, battier, bosh. (or 3 guards and 2 forwards if they go with miller instead of battier).

Biggest advancement I think we'll see is not through the players, but in the technology to be able to track all kinds of statistical measures we can't right now. Basically, it will be more similar to baseball. This will lead to an abundance of efficient players + technology-based chess games.

OP watch too much Anime.

But with less flopping, I think size will be more important. I already see more contact allowed near the basket.

This thread is hilarious

post game behind the 3 point arc? :D

Is everyone here stoned?
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

no chance, a handed shot requires someone to be able to at least palm the ball. If they couldn't, just bringing the ball up in the shooting motion they would let the ball slip out of their hand.

Well, 50 years from now, teenagers are going to laugh at the notion that Michael Jordan or Lebron James can really be considered all time greats, considering the fact that they played in an era with rudimentary training techniques and dietary practices, not to mention how people of today are going to be so far behind the athletic evolutionary scale 50 years from now. Plus, there is no parity in the league so all the championships won in current times will of course hold an asterisk next to them.

Players will be physically bigger, stronger, more dexterous, smarter, quicker, more athletic. Defensive schemes will be on an interplanetary level of consciousness. It's just really crazy how much human beings evolve in such a short span of time.

*btw, aside from that - if you can't shoot accurately with one hand, you're not very good at shooting a basketball. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

w/your strong hand, sure, but i doubt even a lot of nba guys are automatic when open with their off hands

and honestly with gen-modding etc. and a better understanding of chemicals for human betterment, i can see some funky stuff going on in pro sports in a hundred years or so. players built for speed, for hand-eye coordination, raw strength and power, hops etc. some next level ****

Nice trolling OP.

We need some trolling variety outside of the typical and repetitive: "Kobe sucksss" or "Kobe rulesss" type of ****.
