He had no choice. The Sonics were offered a chance at retaining rights to their history and naming so long as they had put together a deal for an arena by a certain date, which they managed to do. This means any team that gets relocated or expanded into Seattle will without a doubt be named the Seattle SuperSonics, with all the banners and numbers of the Sonic`s hanging in the building.

If this deal actually goes through, there is absolutely no way in hell this team should be anything other than the Supersonics.

As a knock-on to that, the name "Kings" should be held in trust for Sacramento, with the intention of putting either an expansion team or another moved from somewhere else back in Sacramento at some future point.
