I'm glad he's signing a long term contact with the Jazz.... the price scares me though.

Price is outrageous looking right now. We're not looking far enough ahead. I think most Jazz fans can agree that it could be very likely that Kanter ends up being our best player very soon. He's an excellent rebounder and has a great offensive game as well. If he pans out like that we think he could we don't want to have someone like Hayward already on the roster with a max deal when Kanter could command one as well.

We also have to consider the possibility of what's coming up this draft. If we end up being at the bottom of the standings for the year we'll be looking for that alpha player next draft and we can't have a huge chunk of our money tied up in guys like Hayward if they don't pan out.

Favors got $49 million over four years. If Hayward's deal is richer, then we're looking at $50 million over four years at a minimum. That's already $12.5 million annually.

Given the production he's had, I'd say at this moment he's worth between $8 - 9 million a year. I wouldn't hate it if he signed for $10 million or even $11 million, because he's a guy who consistently improves and offers a lot of flexibility. He can play on the ball, off the ball, can pass.. He's just downright solid.

But if he's getting $12.5 million or more a year on average, I'd hope for the Jazz that he takes an unexpected step forward in his development and exceeds expectations.

I don't think he deserves 4/50+ yet but Utah has to overpay to prevent their players from eventually leaving. If Hayward makes a leap this year (which he should), then 4/50 might not be a bad deal. For the time being, he probably deserves something in the 4/36-42 range. Hard to blame a team that won't attract any FAs for overpaying their best players though.

Man, young players showing promise (but not yet elite production) are getting PAID these days. Favors got a bundle, Hayward's apparently getting about the same, and there are plenty of other examples.

Early in the off-season I was hoping Greg Monroe wouldn't command more than 4/48, but that was obviously a pipe dream. He's getting 4/60 or whatever the max four year deal is. Blech. Some of these deals are going to backfire.

I tend to agree with the consensus. I have never seen a #1 option player with him. I think paying him more than Favors would be a bad idea.

Let this one go to restricted free agency Jazz.

His marketability in Utah has to be a strong consideration.
He's worth more to the Jazz than anybody else.

The Jazz don't have a franchise player and they should not be handing out long term deals to lock in a core that will not be good enough to win a ring.

In fairness, they will be able to build around this core once they're locked up, considering they won't be any good for the what, next two years?

Slot in a potential all-star from the 14 class, and you're looking at a very solid core if they all develop.

Well, DeRozan is overpaid and I'd much rather have Hayward, so I don't know what to make of that comparison.

4/38 would be a good deal for Hayward IMO. 11 mill a year is the highest I would go, I think.

I can see him putting up like a 16-5-4 kinda numbers.

I'd give him 9m per tops. Probably worth like 6-8, but everyone gets overpaid. I like him game though.

He's a good player and still young, probably worth about 10 million per year. I don't like it though that he'll get more than Favors.

He is overpaid and Hayward is better- but management/players always seem to base new contracts on others, so I thought his agent would say he deserved at least that.

Now we're hearing he could get more than Favors? Nuts. If Hayward has so many fans in GMs then just trade him.

There is a rumor out there that Hayward will get more money than Favors, what the hell are the Jazz doing, that's 12+ mil for a guy that has averaged 10.4 ppg for his career. Not to mention he doesn't have the highest ceiling, so you can't say it's a long term investment. He's going to be getting more than Gallinari,Iguodala, Deng and Batum and all those guys are better.

if Corey Brewer and Budinger get 5+, then he'll get 9 or 10 easy.

Tell me about it, I'm glad the Magic are still early in the rebuilding process so we don't have to pay yet, but boy when we do, I hope our GM shows some restraint.

That's ridiculous. Chase Budinger could put up his stats if he got his playing time. Anything over 8m/year is a joke for this guy. Treadmills gonna tread, enjoy this jazz fans cause you ain't wnning s*** with Hayward making 12-13 mlns a year.

I think he's worth 12 a yr.

Old Iggy got 12 right?

Deng wants over 12 I think.

12 for a young SF still a while away from his prime is reasonable.

One of the things that people don't realize is how good defensively Hayward is. He is probably the best wing defender that the Jazz have ever had... but man if he gets more than Favors it is going to be a little painful.

This.

The Jazz have a couple nice pieces but I'm having flashbacks of the Warriors locking up the JRich-Dunleavy-Murphy-Foyle core. :-?
