Seems like an overpay, even @ $40m/4yr.

Good move by Jazz.

I think its a good gamble by him. He's the only young swingman of any consequence in free agency next year.

Too bad for Jazz fans.
Personally I'm not too high on Hayward but this is the kind of stuff that irks players and causes resentment against an organization later.

This will play into Hayward's decision come free agency.
Funny how guys like Jennings and Ellis couldn't get the contract they wanted this offseason. It's a new NBA landscape with the new CBA. Maybe that'll happen to Hayward this year or maybe some bum team will offer Hayward a contract that Utah isn't willing to match.
I could see either scenarios happening.

Found that on the Jazz boards so not sure the exact source, but if true ridiculous on the Jazz side for offering it and even more ridiculous for Hayward's camp to reject it.

I understood that quote on the Jazz board as a misreading of the ESPN article - Jazz thought Hayward's push for over 50 was steep is not the same as Jazz offered 50.

IIRC, Jazz offered 40/4 and probably never moved much from there.

The article says:

"but they were ultimately hesitant on deadline day to go beyond the $50 million mark, "

So they did offer him 50. I'm glad he didn't take it because that's too much. Sure as hell glad they didn't go higher.

Hayward is delusional. "I'm as good as Paul George!"

"No you're not!"

"FUUuU, I'll show you!"

Okay let's see it...

Since the lockout. It's like they all have +10 mill deals.

He avg 14/3/3 last year, I would say hes worth what the Raptors are paying Demar DeRozan right now. Unless he improves this year then maybe he should get paid a little more.

I don't think any team would pay Gordy that much money. He should fire his agent.

It's not but why not try to get as much money as possible? If a team bites, that's on them.

I like Hayward, but he doesn't look like a guy that should get more than 9 mill a season.

I hope he doesn't get more than 10mil per in free agency. Who does he think he is? It still pains me that Rodney Stuckey got as much as he did.

If the Jazz did indeed offer Hayward 50 million, he was crazy not to take it. He's gonna risk playing an entire season with the possibility of getting injured to get 7 million more if someone decides to offer him a max contract? Seems like a bad idea to me.

Smart move by the Jazz but a disappointing result for everyone involved.

Someone may give Hayward the money he wants but that team will struggle to contend for anything. He's just not worth more than $10M/year.

there's no way he would get 15 mill a year, i think around 11-12 mill

Hes 7-8mil for me. His stats don't put him in the 10+ range unless he improves.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

I think 8mil is fair. Anything over 10 is buyers remorse.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Can definitely see the Bobcats offering him 10 mill/year and Utah matching.

When the Jazz draft Jabari Parker and Aaron Harrison this summer, they'll be glad they didn't over-commit on Hayward. I like his passing and playmaking for his size, but he's not irreplaceable.

Favors would be difficult to replace, that's what makes him more valuable.

It sounds like Hayward turned down $50mil.
