Some people shouldn't have votes. Bucher would still probably rather have Rose on his team than Lebron.

I still think if LeBron had his normal off season workout plan/didnt need as much rest.

He would be the leader right now. He was still getting in his normal shape in Dec. Now he's picking up steam about a month or so later than normal.

So KD is in the lead right now....but LeBron is proving he's the best player.

If KD slightly slumps...and LeBron gets his scoring average to 28 or 29.....I think he gets it.

Bucher likes Westbrook > Durant. And he likes DROSE > LeBron.

So this shouldnt surprising.

LeBron doesn't need to get his scoring average to 28 or 29 to win this. It's not going to come down to PPG. It is going to come down how these two players close the rest of the season. LeBron is slightly behind KD right now but only by a hair.

I agree with Hot Rocks. The KD narrative has changed a bit. He still has the flashy storyline of keeping OKC 1 in the West without Russ but the "he's already better than LeBron" storyline has died and no matter how LeBron closes this season will not become a talking point.

LeBron isn't proving he's the best player. He was the best coming into the season, it is KD who has to prove he's the better player and while some thought he was there after a hot stretch, LeBron is showing why he's LeBron.

And I can't believe the NBA gave Bucher a vote. This guy has his obvious likes and dislikes and a bit of troll in him. That's like giving Skip Bayless a vote :lol:. He said Rose was better than LeBron in 2011 post-decision and against last year.

Agreed. If he even gets 20/7/7, I will be satisfied. Good thing is that Wade is rested and looks to be in good form for the last few games. I would expect him to lead Miami today and allow LeBron to setup people than making him score. OKC plays Philly today. I wouldn't be surprised if KD makes it his personal mission before the game to get 50 and does so with relative ease.

What a douche. When they're voting there should be only two options for #1 and #2: LeBron and KD. Anyone voting for another player is obviously a troll.

James Rustles wrote:^Disagreed about Durant losing the narrative. Having Westbrook go down again on a short notice and then watching Durant step up and obliterate basically everyone in the month of January is probably going to finish as the individual highlight of the season. That combined with Durant having better overall numbers and having the first seed in the tougher conference vs MIA only having the 2nd seed in the far weaker conference and Durant has to have the MVP lead right now. LeBron is closing the gap though, no doubt.

I thought the same thing, Durant winning without Westbrook (who missed 27 games) gives him the edge. But Wade has also missed 16 games himself and will likely miss a few more before the season is over and the Heat do now have a better record than OKC. As of right now the race is a toss up. The player who's team ends up with the better record likely wins it.

Lebron just wants to break many records like KAJ 6 MVP.
If you think about that Lebron has already 4 at his 29 and he has a chance to win a 5th.

It's KD...and this is coming from one of the biggest Lebron fans on Earth. KD has outplayed Lebron this year and has been unguardable on a nightly basis

Its soo close.. I feel like Durant has to drop 60 to separate himself and if he could get 70 then he would be back to having a considerable lead on LeBron. However, being more realistic I think Durant is going to respond with a couple of 50 point games this next week or two to remind people how easy he can score.

WS/48 update

Durant ----> .308
LeBron ----> .283

LeBron is closing rapidly. And as I mentioned in the previous page, the person with the "better stats" does not always win the award. That is, the person with the "better year" does not always win the award. It's a subjective award, and can be given on a variety of criteria.

If you don't believe me, just ask Ric Bucher.

As a HEAT fan and LeBron fan, I'm giving the current slight edge to Durant (that is as of today). BUT, LeBron has significantly closed the gap since the All-Star break, and with how things are currently trending, I see LeBron surpassing Durant for his 5th MVP.

LeBron is on a tear right now.

Durant wins the award.

No one is more valuable than LeBron though.

LeBron.

He has the narrative now. If the season ended today, after the 61-point game, I can't see Durant winning it realistically.

Of course, Durant could go off against the 76ers tonight and LeBron could struggle against the Rockets tonight and then you could have a different picture.

After OKC vs MIA II, everything has been trending towards LeBron. Now is not the time for the votes to be cast if you're Kevin Durant, in my opinion. You don't want that.

It's a bit sad that the race is gonna be decided by who has a 60 point game, who has a couple of dunks on national TV on a big game, or who outplays each other on the 2 (!) games they have head to head, instead of who plays better basketball steadily over the whole season. I guess that's what you get when you give votes to the Skip Bayless of the world while the Zach Lowe's don't have a right to vote.
