That's basically impossible for a modern NBA team to do.

For that reason alone teams like Shaq's LAkers, Jordans Bulls and Duncans Spurs are all far more impressive dynastys imo.

Why is it necessary to put past accomplishments into the present time? That was his era, the rules were different. IF he was in this era, I'm sure adjustments would follow.

this means nothing. If he was so good then why didn't LeBron put him on his Mt Rushmore?

MJ didn't have to retire and Shaq & Kobe didn't have to feud etc and the early Celtics kept it going, even with line-up changes throughout etc.

I don't care if it's church league, winning 8 in row as a team and 11/13 is impressive no matter what you deem the era to be. The Heat are in their 4th finals in a row right now and what I can say about the game today is absolute talent open the doors, but playing as a selfless team is what pushes you through. Russell's contributions were the perfect compliment for his team. He was the floor leader and anchored the D, did the grunt work without question, and helped on O where needed. He'd build himself around the team, not the team around him. That's the difference.

You have to compare in context..... in 100 years time when some elite humans can grow to 8 feet and move like guards and score 50ppg, would that disregard everything happening NOW?

Wow! What an amazing reach! You should become a boxer, bro. Nobody can touch you if you can reach that far.

If Bill Russell didn't play basketball or win at least 8 rings in a row, LeBron wouldn't be born. That makes sense. I'm sure LeBron's mom was laying on her back with her legs open in 1984, saying to whoever LeBron's biological father is (probably somehow Delonte West), "You so lucky Bill Russell won all dem rings 'cuz if he ain't win all dem rings, I wouldn't-a let you do me right now."

There's no way he forgot he won 8 titles in a row. People will talk about it all the time with him and I'm sure he's done countless interviews about the championships for articles, tv specials, documentaries, etc.

What is likely is that the different series' blended together in his mind so none of them stand out individually. This can easily happen and other athletes seem to do this too.

sorry but any time someone makes such a statement of comparison it IS a sign of disrespect. a champion is a champion. all champs of all eras share the same champion dna.

i wonder why only champions understand what other champions have done. oh wait i know, because they know what it takes.

All championships are not created equal. Completely different winning a title in an 8 team league with two rounds of playoffs than in a 30 team league with 4.

Also a lot easier to keep a dynasty going without a salary cap.

probably because he only had to win like 10 games to win a title with very little competition

I'm sure it was just coincidental that the column he wrote was put up the day of game 1 of the Finals.

It was just his way of BS'ing to make sure today's teenagers and those in their early 20's know that he won 8 straight.
No chance of him not knowing until 20yrs ago.

Barely any teams, didn't have to play as many rounds to get to the Finals... Impressive? Yes, but comparing it to the same context as today's championships is a slight to today's teams and players in my opinion.

There were only 8 or 9 teams in the whole league when he won 8 in a row. That's half a playoff bracket. 25% of the league was playing in the finals. I'm not saying winning was easy, but it's not the same as winning in today's league.

Bill Russell Humblebrag. The guy certainly has a knack getting people riled up, but it's probably a good thing. He knows that he's from another era, it's important for people to not forget about him.
