Lin has been disrespected by the Rockets for his whole career there.

There's a reason why Asik was upset last year. It's a revolving door in Houston, that's just how Morey seems to do things. Some organizations are more loyal, some less. How things are handled, though, probably makes a difference. My guess is Asik is not as mad as he was last year if things had been handled differently.

Dumb move by Houston. It makes them look foolish and if this doesn't work out it could blow up on them.

There's no loyalty in sport and Lin should know that better than anyone else after getting out of NY but this is just classless by Houston to be using his jersey number on a player that doesn't play for them while he is still under contract for the team.

I think this is mostly a non-story.

Even if you are a Lin fan even you have to admit Melo is better than Lin. I'm sure Lin knows the deal and why they gave Carmelo his team number even if Lin is still on the team and Melo isn't.

Also, I think ... this may sound a little tin-foil hat but...
I'm pretty sure Carmelo was pretty peeved during the whole Linsanity craze in NYC about how he would "fit in" with Lin once he got back. As if it was Carmelo's job to fit in with Lin and not the other way around. Maybe Carmelo is thinking now, "yeah, you know how it feels Jeremy muhahahahaha."

But what did that have to do with Lin? He wasn't the one asking that question. He was just playing to continue his basketball career.

I opened this thread expecting it to be a story about Lin being upset with being included in salary dump trade scenarios, in which case my response would have been "It's a crappy situation to be in, but if the Rockets can move Lin and grab a Melo or Lebron type, they have to, and Lin should understand that".

However, this is a different kettle of fish altogether. It's one thing having to quietly accept that your team may trade you to make room for a franchise-level player, it's another altogether to have them throwing up billboards with one of said players wearing your number. Unnecessary from the Rockets, I don't know what they were thinking. Someone in their marketing department needs to have resumes of other, more qualified and experienced professionals pinned up on the notice-board in the office.

For real though, anybody think the situation with how Lin is constantly treated is related to passive racism by the team and the media? Is a coincidence that Lin continually finds himself getting the shaft by his teammates, the media and possibly by the coach even though he's a fairly decent NBA player?

As an Asian American guy I have trouble picturing this happening to say.. a European international player. And Lin is really an American too. It sucks that he seems to always be the universe's permanent whipping boy. He seems to be turning that cheek all the damn time.

Seeing as how he's not a Top 15-16 PG in the NBA I'm not sure how true that is but I respect it. He was one week away from probably never being in the NBA again before Linsanity hit. I'm sure that deep down he's grateful as can be.

Loyalty and treating a man with respect are two different things. Guarantee you none of the Rockets people brought Lin in to talk about the possibility of Anthony coming in, taking his number, etc. Lin's been on the trade block since he signed the contract. Treat him with respect. I think that's all Lin is asking for.

Just to play devil's advocate, I wouldn't be surprised if he did want to be moved,he can bank another $6 million.

I've told people I know that this is the hardest Rockets organization or "Rockets culture" for me to root for in the 30 years or so I've been a fan. Someone the other day told me I was being "spoiled" when talking about Morey, because of what Morey has done (in a positive sense).

This (the topic of this thread) is the type of thing that has me down on the organization. And this is not an outlier, IMO.

It's sad. Things don't have to be done this way. But they are done this way. And that is why people become alienated, IMO.

I'm not sure why some people have a problem with Lin's tweet response. It seems to me like all the Lin haters are just using this as another opportunity to say more bad thing about him. Exactly what was wrong with the verse he quoted from the Bible? I don't understand how people could possibly interpret that quote as offensive in any way at all.

I know but humans are complex emotional animals.
Maybe Carmelo felt threatened somehow. Lin doesn't have to go up to Carmelo and take a leak on his locker to mark his territory but ESPN and all other media outlets sure were making it seem like Carmelo was the one who would come in and ruin the Knick's newly discovered mojo.
