Again, when fans constantly repeat "we have all the leverage" over a RFA, they are way underestimating how much control players and their agents hold.

This is almost exactly what I predicted in the previous thread. Once Minny came in with their trade offer, the Suns had no leverage whatsoever as it was out there that teams were willing to go max if they could. This year they can't. Next year they would. 4/48 wasn't cutting it. Bledsoe could wait and get paid next season.

I think this comes in a little below the max, no?

Good deal Suns

Should only be about $500K per game

They should have done it a long time ago and spared the bad feelings. A 24 year old 20 PER player with elite defense, what kind of bargain did Phoenix think they would get?

We came $2m per, Bledsoe came $2.5m per.

Deal.

I don't like the 5th year, but it's not terrible on a per year basis. Plus, I'd bet this is a declining deal, which could help the Suns out going forward.

How long until this becomes the league's worst contract?

One more knee injury and it's right up there. Obviously you don't wish than on anyone but the Suns are standing on thin ice.

If you it per day the value looks even smaller :)

It looks like they will only have around $25 Million in salary committed next year including Bledsoe which will give them room to resign Green and Dragic and probably still have room for a max guy or close. Phoenix could be Bad Ass next year. Especially if the young guys mature nicely.

Hahaha - so tired of this Minny thing being construed as if it matters. "Phoenix is interested in trading for Kevin Durant."

See what I did there? It means nothing. Can't happen. Won't happen.

And this contract is $13m total below the max.

When the cap does go up this will probably look like just an above average contract instead of what it is now. Then Phoenix has him as a trade chip with a bigger cap or a solid point guard to continue to build around. Not terrible.

Agreed, but we also have the best med staff in the league. You have to imagine that there was a lot of thought put into this contract. They have reams and reams of information on Bledsoe's knee, and I'm sure they acquired all of the appropriate contract insurances.

Also, for better/for worse, they retain a good young player on a non-max contract that could be a valuable asset down the road if he plays up to his potential this season, injury free.

It was a meniscus tear dude. Once it's healed he is no more of a risk than any one else. Those are almost never re-occuring injuries.

But a team under the cap could offer him the max next summer if he took the QO and that's why Phoenix IMMEDIATELY ran back to the table and increased their offer after said rumors. It mattered because of what teams could do next season when he could have been an UFA.
