Not sure if already posted but this is better than the NBA lottery! Silver with the pingpong balls and shooting at the cups?!

I wouldn't mind that either.
How I would do it; the players are blindfolded and the teams logos are at the bottom of the cup so we cant see it. Then the players have to shoot a ping-pong ball and whatever cup it goes into that's the team they go to.

This is exactly why amateur drafts exist.
I've always thought that the idea of being a top pick is sort of funny: "You're one of the best players in the country and everybody wants you on their team. Some would pay ungodly sums of money for your services. So here's what we're going to do: you get to play for one of the worst teams in the league! Have fun!"

Once upon a time, players took pride in bringing a poor team to the forefront of contention.

I'm sure many of them still do, and most of us here would give our left arms to be 19-year-old lottery picks, but I just think it's sort of ironic to be working all your life on your dream of playing in the NBA and then you get stuck on the timberwolves or whatever. Of course all a kid has to do is stay focused, keep working and good things will happen. Which is a challenge for many.

Yes. By trading you for another team's star.
Shaq signed as a free agent.
Also, if you actually look at what I said, it's that the Lakers have a better chance then the Knicks of picking up a big free agent. This is a comparative measure, not an objective statement that they have a great chance period.
Before last year the Lakers only had 2 lottery picks in their history. Both were traded eventually for better players.
Very small sample size obviously, but interesting.
