Not really, though they likely match anyway. Durant's never even played with him.

OKC is just about $2.5M under the tax, so a max deal for Kanter would cost them nearly $40M.

Fits nicely for portland. Desparately need the scoring. I like their signings, but davis/aminu/plumlee will not be replacing the scoring they lost.

Lillard
McCullum / Henderson
Aminu
Davis / Vonleh
Kanter / Plumlee / Leonard

A lot of solid future pieces. Ideally need a scoring SG and move CJ to the 6th man

I'd pass, but OKC probably needs to match so Durant is more enticed to stay. McGary is more than capable.

Freeland in Europe, Meyers Leonard becomes trade bate (Dallas?), Ed Davis is a PF, and Plumlee is a good back up.
Ingles is cooked.

Kanter is gone.

Steven Adams is actually pretty good, and Mcgary backing up. Kanter is a luxury player to have (at $40M wow)

I can pretty much guarantee Meyers Leonard would start over Ed Davis. Leonard was Aldridge's backup, not Lopez.

having a kanter in this unit is a nearly perfect tank move by the blazers. it will be hard to not get raped by opponents pick and rolls vs. lillard/kanter or mccollum/kanter.
and his rotation defense and bb-iq is a mess.
but a nice chance for him to put up great stats on a bad team. mip candidate?

So is OKC working to match or are they screwed?

After Harden how can they let another player leave because of the tax?

Not really, though they likely match anyway. Durant's never even played with him.

True, but it's not about that, it's about okc potential letting another valuable young piece leave to save money. Contrast that to what say Dan Gilbert is doing, and I think a guy like Durant would want to go somewhere where his owner is willing to pay to get him he help he needs in his prime years. Bennett made tons of money when the team was all on rookie contracts. Now it's time to pay that luxury tax.

He has, and I'd bet he will. That said, OKC was still better with Kanter off the court than on it. I'd still be very surprised if they don't match, and really at this point it kinda benefits them that PDX offered because he'll only get 4.5 percent raises instead of 7.5.

Adams is a promising kid but his scoring thread is nowhere near Kanter, from posting down low or mid range. Kanter can create his own shots too while being a good pop. He also has insane vertical reach of 9'1 good for offensive putbacks. The prospect of partnering him and Ibaka (now with a range too) is just fascinating on both ends of the floor. You can not look at the 2.1m cap space and say 'nah we gon go for Javale Mcgee.

It will come down to money I think, and the willingness of Presti going all out on a rookie coach in KD's contract year. Similar situation is Rockets letting Parsons go but had Bosh signed, they would have matched Cuban's offersheet and gone way into luxury tax ie going all out.

OKC offered him 15.5 million and said they would match any offer sheet. OKC will trade PJIII (which kinda sucks) and Novak to get back under the tax.

So basically Portland is forcing OKC to trade PJIII and Novak by tying up their money for three days.
