It's poetic justice that Deng is a captain of the NBA sponsored Africa team after recent disparaging remarks made about his ethnic background. He and the NBA are both showing how proud they are of the "Africa in him." He's a class act.

I believe you are correct that Ferry didn't write the purported comments. In retrospect, I inadvertently oversimplified the controversy in the wording I used. I apologize if my reference to him was unjust. My intent wasn't to attack Ferry; my primary point was to commend Deng. With that said, I don't believe Ferry was completely innocent in that matter. If he repeated the comments without strong qualifications, as has been widely reported, he deserves some censure. Further, I think you go too far in concluding I have an agenda in my brief reference to him. Nonetheless, I thank you for pointing out the oversight to me so I could correct the original post.

Anyway, the point still stands that it is indeed poetic justice that Deng represents the NBA in Africa after the recent racist remarks (regardless of whoever wrote them or repeated them, etc.). I would also guess that Deng's role as captain of the team may be partially an attempt to right that wrong. Obviously, Deng is also a respected veteran with a reputation as a high character guy. So it's possible the comments have nothing to do with his role as captain of the team.

In any event, I would like to commend Deng for taking a leadership role in this positive enterprise.
