Does the league have ownership of the Thunder's team operations? No? Then why is this a thread?

Stern stepped in because the NBA was technically in control of the Hornets franchise at the time; this is nothing like that situation at all, as it is a FA signing, as opposed to a trade, and the NBA should have no say over this given that it is a perfectly legal signing.

According to the rules, the trade in 2011 was perfectly legal as well..

As the commissioner he should be able to step in, in my opinion. It's not just a knock on KD, it's anyone trying to form a super team. It ruins the league. We need parity, not the opposite.

It doesn't matter what you think or want... it is what Kevin Durant wants. Deal with it.

How does no one understand the Stern decision by now? Stern rejected that decision because it was a crappy deal, given his standing as basically controller of the Hornets. It was a horrible deal for the Hornets, it had nothing to do with parity for the league, though obviously a horribly 1-sided trade with a former Championship team is going to have an impact on the league as well.

What a punk ass sell out.
Goes to his rivals and rides steph Curry's coat tails for the rest of his career.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Right, but the NBA was technically in charge of the franchise and it wasn't an intelligent trade for the Hornets, so it's a more understandable intervention. There is no sense to them intervening in this signing right here, since they aren't in the same position. I would probably stop watching basketball if the commissioner overturned the signing.

This is directly false. The most popular periods in NBA history have been defined by superteams.

Technically, the only thing Silver can do is block any trade Golden State makes, which means they can't sign Durant. Warriors need to trade Bogut, just don't let that happen.

Two totally different situations, no reason to even entertain it. Durant's a FREE AGENT and can sign with whomever he chooses.

And at the end of the day, you still have to play the games and be mentally tough, especially in the playoffs. Nothing is being handed to anyone.

If Silver and NBA instituted a more gradual increase in cap instead of ridiculous spikes then we wouldn't have championship level teams giving out max contracts.

If Silver really wants or needs to step in, he should formulate a contract structure for all teams, such as maximum of one 25+ M contract for each team. This way we could actually see teams being careful with their moves, opting for not to throw away max contracts at everyone and prefer to keep their 25+ M option so that they can pay their own superstar.

It's amazing that people still don't understand this. Owners veto deals all the time, Stern at the time had every right to save the Hornets from themselves from making a stupid deal

I still can't believe the amount of people who don't understand why Stern vetoed that trade. The NBA OWNED the Hornets and their GM made a **** trade for the franchise, so they said "I ain't signing that ****" and found a better trade. It's not hard people.
This Durant situation (which I hate too) isn't anything like that. Silver can't just say "I don't like you signing with that team", the NBPA would never allow that.

Hey man you deserve one too and I never tried to imply otherwise but it can only happen after this run is over.

He should. This is a disgrace, but it's also the NBA's fault for it happening.

Guys just come to terms with it. Say it aloud "Durant will play for Golden Star Warriors"
