Thomas and Stauskas are two different people. Some can handle themselves better than others. Thomas obviously has that desire to be great.

I guess there is a fine line between hazing rookies and making them feel unwelcome.

All I'm trying to say is: Stauskas hasn't made any big strides since joining the Sixers, so I don't think you can blame Cousins for his lack of progress.

You can blame Cousins for being an ***hole, but not for holding Stauskas back.

Light hearted hazing is fine, even good.

Creating a hostile and abusive working environment on a daily basis however is unacceptable. No organization, whether a sports team, a business, or anything else will ever live up to its potential in a poisoned environment like that.

Nik seems to have confidence issues in general. He worked w/ a therapist in the off-season to work on it and everything. His shot is so pure...but he often goes games without hitting a shot. Its all mental

I seriously hate when articles like these come out in any sport after a player leaves or gets traded.

The Kings still took a poor offer for him, turned down a potential top 7 pick for him, didn't ignite a bidding war, and didn't get a 2019 first for him.

Seriously, you can't ruin someone who's not on the way to ruining themselves anyways.

you definitely can. confidence is probably the most important trait in a basketball athlete and most people dont respond well to abuse. nik would have been in a tough situation being cursed out by the teams star player, as he would have been in fear of consequences, if he responds who is going to be punished etc, then he does nothing and gets down on himself etc. thats why sometimes idiots ie draymond green, kyrie irving, demarcus cousins can be such good players. because they dont over analyze things and just play the game and dont have fear of consequences if someone fronts them.

edit: just saw post above. who knows if its true.... but my response above still stands. you can easily ruin a rookie players career through abuse (i have first hand experience). my biggest regret in life is not knocking a specific person out.

We have truly entered the NBA "safe spaces" era.

What I do find hilarious is the Kings, having now committed the ultimate foulup of all NBA foulups, are a) of course going to do the (rightfully) insecure thing and leak and slime and run down their former franchise player, even though he was the one who wanted to stay. And b) to top it off maybe they are now going to try to blame their abysmal drafting record on him too?? Haha. "We didn't blow draft after draft drafting scrubs with our lottery picks...no, they were upcoming stars until that big mean Boogie ruined them!"


The NBA really needs to expand by a team here. Right now the Conferences are unbalanced, 15 legit NBA teams in the East, and only 14 in the West.

So:

1) I don't think Stauskas can really blame it all in Cousins.

2) I don't think Lowe was suggesting that he could.

3) I don't think people really understand the levels of self-efficacy required to succeed on a level like thus. Yes it's a kids game but the stakes are reals and so is the grind. Whenever I see people on here mocking pro athletes for being soft I think they look ridiculous. Managing the psyches of your players, especially the young players, is mandatory and where they fail, you fail. And if a star player contributes to this, this is always damning if him as a player and as a person. Every. Single. Time.

4) I do think that it amazes me how many people just give Cousins excuse after excuse for the myriad times he's acted poorly. At this point no one should deny he's a head case.
