That would be a crock of crap in the NBA actually let that happen. It's opening up pandora's box if you allow that.

Then teams will just trade someone, with an underlying agreement for that team to dump him to someone who wants to waive them, and voila they are back for nothing. It would take a little more work, but it could be done.

The league used to allow players to be traded, then waived, then return to their old team in 30 days. The league didn't burn down, it only happened a handful of times.

Bob Myers was interviewed today, they asked him specifically this but he was under the impression they couldn't acquire Bogut for a full year. Not sure if Bob was aware of this interpretation or if he figured we don't want Bogut, so why figure out the details.

Yes I realize this, my Cavaliers did it with Zydrunas for Antawn Jamison, and people were beotchin up a storm for it.

The NBA used that as a one example for why they were making the rule.

Not yet, I would be pretty annoyed if that was allowed yes. Do you blame me? Especially because I have wanted Bogut as a Cav since the rumors of Dallas wanting to buy him out months ago

Do you see how difficult would that be? First you do that because you want clear up cap space and said player is taking up a lot, so you need to first find a team that is willing to eat up the cap space, not counting anything being sent back. THEN u need another team that is also able to eat the cap space, send something back, and planning to waive the said player. that's asking a lot for two teams to help a title contender.

That's like saying oh teams will just sign their MVP calibre player cheap after some lingering injury so they can sign another MVP calibre player AND have DPOY player AND one of the best spot up shooter in th team. It's easier said than done

I can't imagine this would be allowed under the spirit of the CBA in terms of the re-acquisition rule. A quick ruling from the league offices may be in order, or maybe they'll hope some team claims Bogut off of waivers and saves them the embarrassment.

But a team who is over the cap can keep signing players?

Bogut is a businessman outside the NBA and was developing Silicon Valley Business relationships while on the team.

Bogut knows the system fits well and knows the team. Total win for the player.

True competitors go where they have the best chance to win if it's not about the money.

The rule was never meant to prevent a situation like this, so there is nothing wrong here. Not a loophole.

Yes, and various stipulations are in the current CBA that both allow it (The Bird Rule / Soft cap / Exceptions) and deter it (luxury tax).

Bogut back to GSW would be HUUUUUGE. He'd rightfully take that starting spot back from Zaza, and gives them a huge insurance policy in that front court with a rotation of him, Zaza, McGee and Draymond covering the 5.
