Is this a Ben Simmons was not really a rookie joke?

That was a multiple purpose post

Spoiler:
For the record I thought Ben Simmons was a very well deserved ROY this year.

Mitchell got destroyed because the voters knew the rules.

Simmons received 90 first place votes, 10 second place votes and 1 third place vote.
Mitchell received 11 first place votes, 89 second place votes and 1 third place vote.

Those results are really surprising. I was sure that Mitchells points per game, as well as the narrative that Ben wasn’t a rookie, would convince a few more to vote against the clear statistical evidence. Just goes to show that the voters are well informed and that in the end the race wasn’t as close as some thought. Love to see them on the same team one day.

If a player is drafted the year before they shouldn't be allowed to win ROY. Donovan Mitchell got robbed.

Doncic has been a pro since 15 years old.. How is that fair to the other draftees? This award is all about fairness now right? Give all of em a trophy!

Been a pro? Just because he's getting paid to play, doesn't mean he's with the best players in the world, on the team that drafted him, and travelling/practicing with them.

Lol deja vu. No matter how many times you talk it into existence this take is still wrong as Blake Grifin and Ben Simmons will attest.

Kind of scary how obsessed with the Sixers and their players some Celtics fans are.

I know they're petty but I enjoy the ben Simmons jokes. Imagine if embiid played more than 30 games in 16-17 and won ROY as a 3rd year player. Maybe the backlash wouldn't have been so bad since his only competition was malcom freaking brogdon (who kinda ironically was a 24yo ROY himself).

There are people who said Embiid should've been ROY who then went on to never shut up about how Ben Simmons can't be ROY because he's "not a rookie".

If the Kings run the type of offense that makes sense for their young team (Running and fast pace), I see Bagley being a very strong contender for ROTY.

Doncic or Ayton. Lets start with Doncic. He's on a bad team, but great situation, and has all the experience. Ayton will be given the minutes. Trae Young will be coming off the bench behind Schroeder, but will put up numbers? If he starts I'd give him a chance. I don't really see anyone else getting the award.

Ayton. He'll be amazing from the get go and finish the season beasting. Then in 3 years when he still can't defend people will start turning on him.

Basically KAT 2.0

Doncic, Ayton and Bagley seem like the frontrunners if only because of minutes and usage I expect them to get. For the very same reason, Young could be in the mix if Schröder gets traded. I expect Doncic to be on the team with the best record – although I could see Phoenix also making a clear leap – so he'd be my favorite for now.

This year will be difficult for darkhorse candidates to win unless they really show a lot. I'd say of the guys picked outside the top 5, Miles Bridges could be in play for RoY. He's ready to contribute and Charlotte could give him some touches and minutes. Maybe Jerome Robinson, too, if his scoring translates and the Clippers decide to give him the green light to just put up shots.

We could well have this debate again this year. If you notice most Kings fans have not said Bagley but have instead said Harry Giles. It’s not being said from wild speculation but because more than 1 Kings player has said he will win it.
