Judging by Pacers fans reaction to the Lance declined option, I want to say it's Lance Stephenson in our own small world of fandom. Not representative of the whole NBA fanbase, but whew. It's bad.

Here's some embarrassing (as a Pacers fan) albeit fun reading.

As far as Paul, man. It's rough. He is so good sometimes. You just think he's as good as he thinks he is. Then he will go in the tank for a while. He would make a great Pippen style (not as good as Pippen) #2. But he thinks he's Jordan.

he's definitely not a superstar. he has the ability to step up and be a big time player but he's better suited as a consummate Scottie Pippen role. he's amazingly perfect for it.

He’s terrific. He’s a top 20 player that can excel at positions 2-4, on both ends. Every team in the league has a place for him, even the teams that already have elite SFs. He fills a role like Klay Thompson, and is arguably better.

If George is your team’s best player, you’re probably not a championship contender (but you might be a playoff team). If he is your second best player, you might be a contender (and your floor is the first round). If he is your third best player, you are probably penciled I to the Finals.

Is he worth a max? He’s worth it to a crappy team that needs a star and to a very good team that needs that last piece to put it over the top.

He's a great player, but he's definitely still benefitting from his pre-injury defensive reputation. He's not a bad defensive player by any means, but he's rather average outside of high steal numbers. Once Roberson went down this year, George's defensive statistics plummeted. He's no longer a guy who can be the best player on a contender like he was around 2014, but still a sure All-Star.

I think most people know what he is at this point. A really good player and 2nd option. Most people know he's probably not a number 1 option on a championship team.

He's a pretty awesome player for the sake of roster flexibility.

I think he could be the #1 but the surroundings/whole core would have to be strong. Boston is an example of a team he could when a championship with substituting him for Gordon Hayward.

Switching PG13 in for Andrew Wiggins in Minnesota is another situation where he could arguably be the best player and the team could win a ring.

He’s not good enough to be the best player on a championship team but he has an incredibly valuable skill set.

Personally I think Embiid is WAY more overrated if we’re talking the most overrated player in the NBA.

He is a bit but stars that play great defense along with scoring always get a bit extra praise.
Its always been that way.

The better version of PG13 is playing in Minny, so no he couldn't.

Rudy Gay with the ability to get hot in the playoffs and great defense.

He is certainly up there. His reputation doesn't seem to match his accomplishments.

I really can't imagine a team winning a championship if George is your first or second best player. He is definitely a second-tier all-star. I think it says a lot about him as a player that he failed to lift OKC higher this season. Some team is going to pay him a fortune for the next five years and realise that you really can't win if you are paying a max salary to someone like George.

Thats a hot take. I would say you're nuts.

Someone like LeBron, Kobe, Duncan, Dirk could most definitely reel off multiple titles with George as their second best player.

I don’t hold OKC last year against him. They run an out of date offense. He started the year as a poor man’s Kevin Durant and finished it as a rich man’s PJ Tucker.

He’s not overrated especially when you consider how well he’s been able to bounce back from that gruesome injury.
He’s a rare 2 way star that can play well with other stars and probably at his best off ball. That comes at a premium, only 3 players come to mind when I think of players better than him in that role and they all play for the warriors

What's your argument for anyone in Minnesota being the better version?
