WHAT??!

I wouldn't expect a non-Pacers fan to understand.

I live 20 minutes from downtown Indy. I assume I have been to more games than you. I have watched over 1000 pacers games...I assume I have watched at least 90% of the games Foster played...

His career was incredibly average. Resigning him (and drafting Fred jones instead of selling the pick) cost the team Brad Miller, who was an actual ALL STAR...Foster is not even a starter...

What's with the arrogant demeanor? I'm not going to make my claim over who's been to more games, or who's watched more games.

But I've never come across a Pacers fan who didn't have the utmost respect and admiration for Jeff Foster. A lifelong Pacer who poured his heart and soul into every rebound, let alone every game. The chronic back pain that he played through for much of his career, even when his best years were grinding away on 33 win teams.

And is your opinion of him is that he wasn't a starting caliber player? Or are you saying he actually wasn't a starter and did not start for us? I don't want to make any assumptions here, I'll leave that up to you.

Of the same ilk as Nick Collison.

I'd be fine with the Pacers retiring Jeff Foster's jersey.

He was a great example of the Pacers mentality and a fan favorite for a long time. Also was on some very good teams for us.

Exactly. I thought he'd be an easy candidate for jersey retirement in Indiana. He embodies what the Pacers have stood for and what they strive to be.

Love it. He is a team lifer and those guys are usually rewarded for their loyalty where I come from. I'd do the same for Jeff Foster.

Foster didn't cost the team Brad Miller? The Pacers couldn't afford Brad Miller...and it definitely was not because of Foster's contract.

Foster was great for the Pacers. An elite role player.

You were the one making the assumption that I was not a fan,...that is arrogance.I love Jeff Foster.I respect Foster. He plays the right way. Should the Bulls put Ed Nealy in the rafters? Should the Mavericks retire Brian Cardina'ls jersey? Foster was an average to below average player..."heart and soul into every rebound" What? The guy never even averaged double-figure rebounds...

The only year he truly was a "starter" was the year I mentioned after the front office picked him (and Jones and Pollard) over BRAD MILLER...The Foster over Miller decision was the end of the Pacers as contenders...

It is bad enough having a large portion of your fanbase obnoxiously worshipping guys like TJ McConnell just because they are white. Don't need them getting their numbers retired for it too.

Yes, They extended Foster that offseason at 4 million. Jones was maybe 2.5 million...Pollard was probably a couple million... add those up and you can afford Miller.

Jeff Foster started 345 regular season games for the Pacers. His rebounding was so much better than those numbers indicate. He was absolutely an elite rebounder. He was playing next to Jermaine O'Neal who frequently averaged over 10 per game, so thats part of the reason his numbers are where they are, but also he had more tip out rebounds than anyone I've ever seen. He never got credit for those, but he was the reason we were getting the offensive boards.

I agree, he was an average NBA player, but he was an elite role player and a fan favorite who spent his entire career on the Pacers.

Extended him for a lot less than Brad Miller was going to make. They extended him as a replacement for a player they couldn't afford.

Are you serious? About this entire post.

He was certainly a starter for more than just the one season there, bud.

You also said he didn't put his entire effort into each board?? I am going to make an assumption at this point. You haven't watched 1,000 Pacers games. You did not watch 90% of games Foster played, because if you had, you'd never blaspheme in this manner.

I just looked Pollard up he was 5.3.

I will say this again. The Pacers say they can't afford Miller. So they trade him for Pollard at 5.3. They extend Foster doubling his sallary at 4.Fred Jones made 1.5.

Brad Miller was only at 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7 million in 03 04...7.8 in 04/05

So the Pacers decided to trade Miller their All star and repalce him with an extended Foster at center over three million.

Foster/Pollard 9.4 million vs Brad Miller at 7 million

THEY COULD afford Miller they wanted Foster instead and a decade of darkness happened.

A Nick Collison jersey retirement thread devolving into an argument about Jeff Foster. I've seen it all

Brad Miller did an interview explaining it was all money. I mean, you're comparing two players salaries to one, of course the two is going to be more.

I love Brad Miller, one of my all time favorite players. I would have loved for him to retire as a Pacer, but we had a lot of money tied up in other positions.

Also, Jeff Foster isn't the reason for all bad times that followed.

He started partial seasons after but after they traded Miller 03-04 was the ONLY year Foster was the appointed and hopeful starter. After that they knew he was below average.

Again, I agree he gave effort...he just wasn't anything other than an AVERAGE rebounder and average to a below average player. Great effort but couldnt get double-figure boards...
