why would they offer him the full max? if some other team does, obviously you have to match but i don't see anyone going that far.
20-23 mil a year base salary for 3-5 years with some attainable incentives seems about right

Yep. I'd structure his future contract to be heavily incentive laden.

I'd pay max$ for a two year contract but having that thing on the books for 5 years for a not particularly efficient volume guard who is also contact-averse is a disaster waiting to happen.

I give him $100m and 50 under the table, cause you know he can keep it on the down low.

Get out of here. Teams gotta stop paying players those kind of contracts. He gets a big contract, but not that big.

Some team needs to throw a max offer just to give Marks a taste of his own medicine.

Not sure yet, right now I dont think hes worth all that money but if he keeps improving at the rate he's improving then yes.

Re: D-Lo's max for the Nets is 5/156...do you pay it?
If that's what it takes? Yes. There's always that looming risk of topping out as a perennial borderline playoff team with no flexibility. This Brooklyn unit has earned that gamble with their team first play and effort. DLo has been a big part of the resurgence. I think the team loses its soul if it lets Russ walk or even upgrades him. You can talk about what a smart decision would be, but if you get too shrewd too often with these good business decisions you end up with a team that plays like a collection of assets.

He's not a superstar, but then again, there's less than 10 real superstars out there. I'd offer him 5/125.

Maybe the four year max, definitely not a five.

Re: D-Lo's max for the Nets is 5/156...do you pay it?
He's a restricted FA, so no. You offer him somewhere along 20 mil unless another team offers him a max. Which I doubt would happen.
If it does happen, probably not a good idea to match, especially since they already have Dinwiddie locked up.

It's never smart to pay big money to a high-volume chucker. Happy for his success but I'd let someone else get stuck paying him that massive contract.

Re: D-Lo's max for the Nets is 5/156...do you pay it?
if im marks i call memphis and ask the GM do they regret signing parsons to that hefty contract after he had injury concerns in his past which russell also has,
because you cant live in the moment of him being a fringe allstar , you gotta consider all facets of the franchises future,
do u see him improving or regressing like whiteside or wiggins or after you max him out?
or do u do it just to show face as far as putting a decent team on the court for the forseeable future
If im the nets i think i offer him within 15% of the max but not the max and tell him its for financial flexibility

Funny how you call him a chucker even though hes more efficient than Westbrook by every metric.
If Russell's a chucker than Westbrook must be the worst scorer of all time.

Re: D-Lo's max for the Nets is 5/156...do you pay it?
Paying marginal players max money is the worst thing you can do as a GM of a small market team. Marginal players are more often than not fool's gold. You especially don't do it for reasons like "potential," or "he could be the face of the franchise," or "who else are you going to use the cap space for."
Cap space is always valuable even if you can't necessarily guarantee that you'll use it on marquee free agents, because it allows you more flexibility to upgrade the roster via depth. Managing your cap space well is usually one of the only ways that small market teams can have a hope of putting a decent team together.
And honestly, Russell is looking like potential fool's gold. 53.4 TS%, .096 WS/48, -.82 DRPM. Maxing those type of numbers is a sucker move waiting to happen. I would give him 3/80 with a player option for the 3rd year, to see if he actually lives up to the hype while giving him the opportunity to earn the big $ while he's still only 26 years old.
