Re: BREAKING: Nike PAID DeAndre Ayton when he was at Arizona
Why are we even listening to anything from Avenatti? Even with him getting arrested yesterday, lets just look at what he says here. He says Nike paid Ayton when he was at Arizona. Arizona is an Adidas school and Ayton signed with Puma after he left. What the hell did Nike pay him for? This would make more sense if he said this to say a Marvin Bagley or someone who at least went to a Nike school. Nike paying a player to go a school that wears Nike's makes a lot more sense, then paying a player to go to an Adidas school. Plus he ends off after saying all this without showing any evidence or specifics to back this up. What a joke.

Adidas was the shoe brand that was primarily caught up in the FBI thing.

Even if it's true, who cares?
It's a private transaction between two consenting entities. The NCAA doesn't have to pay its players but they should not interfere with them finding ways to get paid either.

That knickname should bode well in prison.

Isn't Chris Webber's "scandal" common practice today?

Agreed. If the NCAA wants to say they're and amateur competition that is fine by me as long as that is more than well known by both parties that, that is what they're agreeing too. But yes the policy that says they can't make money off their own name and likeness is beyond stupid. That is the NCAA going out of their way to make sure these players aren't paid.
Just on a side note, I don't get this from the NCAA side either. That is free publicity for them if they let the players make money off their likeness. Im sure RJ and Zion would have a commercial out by now. Im sure Trevor Lawrence over the summer would have a commercial offer or 2. That is just free publicity for them, while also letting the players get paid. Seems like that is an obvious win for the NCAA and an even more obvious win for the players.

Nike probably did it. But they didn’t pay him enough if Ayton signed with Puma.

Yes. There were articles written back in the day of Anthony Davis getting 100k to play at UK for his 1 year. Ive seen rumors that Zion's family are renting a very expensive house near Duke and his younger brother is now enrolled in a very expensive private school.
The vast majority of the top recruits are getting paid. Brian Bowen was the 17th ranked recruit last year and got paid 100k from Louisville. No doubt the big time top 5 recruits are getting big time offers.

Haha ya.
Nike: Okay here is 100k, choose a Nike school to play for
Ayton: I am attending Arizona (Adidas school)
Nike: Okay not what we talked about but here is a little more so when you're done playing with Arizona, you will sign with us
Ayton: I have signed a shoe deal with Puma
Nike: Guys I think we may have been played
I would become the biggest fan of Ayton if it played out even similar to this haha.

May or may not be true, but Avenatti is a hack who is trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame.

1. Avenatti is a hack with used car salesman level of credibility.
2. NCAA is an exploitative scam.
3. Players should feel free to violate NCAA rules.
4. I hope Ayton got some money for his professional employment with the University of Arizona even if it wasn't in the form of a traditional paycheck.

If I'm the NCAA I say, you can make all the money in the world off your likeness but, you must include NCAA branding on everything and we get a veto in terms of quality content.
Meaning, Zion cant shill for Big Redd's House of Intimate Apparel without the NCAA first okaying it.
Ask for a set % of any Nike/Adidas/etc deals signed.
They've got some archaic dinosaur thinkers over in the NCAA

I wouldn't even go that far. I don't think the NCAA should have to approve those decisions. The player should be able to monetize off his name anyway he'd like, just like any other student in the school.
Add on: And to your point of endorsing something like Big Redd's House of Intimate Apparel. The best I would say is, leave that up to the individual school and coach. Just make sure it is known during recruiting. So if you are a school like BYU, I can see you not wanting a player on your team endorsing that product. Well that would just be a recruiting disadvantage for them. Cause other schools will have no problem with it.
