Kelly Olynyk was the best summer league player the year he was drafted.

Bad display of high draft picks is always a very bad sign.

But there are some exceptions too. For example, 2018 #2 pick Marvin Bagley was awful last summer, but his rookie season was good and promising.

Probably not - but this definitely is in line with how I thought he'd be as a player. High volume, poor FG%

Summer league as a whole means less than nothing in terms of guys drafted in the first round. It really only matters for mid to late second round picks and undrafted FAs. It's practically a try out for the G League team. The only time there should be any type of red flag at a summer league game is if a player appears to lack the requisite athleticism.

This is stupid. it's 2 games of glorified pickup ball. Clarke isn't Matrix 2.0 yet and Barrett isn't already a bust. Everyone relax.

Not jumping to any conclusions over a couple of summer league games BUT...

I will say RJ better start playing more within himself, stop forcing plays/ballhoggin as was a clear issue even in college. Because in the NBA it will be even tougher to score until he improves his shooting touch n NY media and fans will turn on you quickly if you don't pump the brakes a lil bit.

"It's just summer league". What does that mean - that he isn't trying or doesn't care about playing good?

This is definitely troubling - not to panic. But this is just a warning sign, we'll know for sure this season.

So when I played in high school I knew my role and it wasn't as a scorer. But put me with those same guys in a pick-up setting? My usage rate gonna go way up, you know? :D

Right now he's probably all geeked up and wanting to prove he was worthy of the high pick and is pressing and playing with a bunch of non-NBA talent. He may be one of those guys who plays a lot better in structure and with better players. But I wouldn't worry that he's going to try and play the same way in the RS as he is now. Right now the Knicks should want him using as many possessions as he can regardless of results. They won't take the same approach when games count.

Trae Young was being labeled a bust after last years summer league. It literally doesn't matter.

He looks terrible. And his jumper is broken.

He's going to struggle bigtime this year. I expect Barrett hearing the boo birds this year in New York.

yes and i don't believe in "this is only summer league" or "it's too early"
people who point out the exceptions are ,,,,POINTING OUT EXCEPTIONS. like, from what you've seen how much of a bet are you willing to lay down on rj?

if a player plays well in summer, it's easier to say "wait until the season starts". if a player plays POORLY against what will amount to scrubs, that's a damn cause for concern because he's not even doing that.

for instance, one should feel better about zion even though he didn't play much, but you can see already he ain't no lebron, but he did have that one man-moment when he ripped the ball away from knox.

all i can say about barrett is he looks physically impressive. he looks bigger than 6'7". and it ends there. he is shooting just as poorly as he did in college and that ain't good

Absolutely, they should look to trade him for a top 55 protected pick immediately.
