I think Durant was included in the poll, because it’s not based on predicted 2019-2020 performance, but instead on how we would rank the top 25 players in the NBA at the start of the 2019-2020 season. But I’m not sure everybody can see the difference with that. With injured players the best we can do is predict how they will play when they return. It kind of helps to think about it as free agency and what order you would sign them.

By the way, if Durant recovers quickly he can possibly start playing as early as February (Kobe returned in 240 days = 8 months) from what I’m hearing. And everybody I’ve seen talk about Durant’s recovery, predicts that after he returns he won’t be affected as much as some other players. This is due to the style Durant’s plays basketball, his conditioning prior to the injury, work ethic, etc

The only reason Kevin Durant is not officially shutdown for upcoming season is because Nets want to sell more tickets and jerseys using his uncertain status. No way anyone will risk or push anything with superstar on 4 year contract because single month of his play. And if Nets learned anything in this decade is to be patient. And even if he play 10-15 games at the end of the season, is that really enough to qualify for anything about 2019-20 season? I know George will miss about 15 games at the start of the season, and that will be the only reason I will vote for Lillard on next #9 poll instead of George, because even 15 missed games is something you can't ignore.

You just have a different criteria for ranking players. I don’t really have a problem with that. Nobody set any rules about how we were supposed to come up with the top 25 players, so it’s just going to be based on what most people think anyways. If it was really that important they would have explained why Durant was included in the poll to begin with. If a group of people vote for a different player it’s not really that big a deal IMO unless the separation is razor thin, which it hasn’t been so far.

The thing is,many board members-including myself-are not avoiding voting for KD cause they are certain that his achilles tear will be so catastrophic that will drop him from top3 status to out of the top10,top25 even.

That's a debate for next summer.

We're just avoiding voting for KD cause he will not-neither should-play the entire 2019-20 season.He's gonna take a season off to heal,that's just fine and standard and normal.

If anything,keeping Durant in the polls or even voting for KD at this point could potentially be considered disrespectful-as in voters have already rated him out of the top5 cause of his injury.That's not the case here.He is not eligible imho for rating atm,cause he is not capable for playing in the season,so we're voting as if his name is not one of the poll options.

Embiid. He should have gone already; Jokic over Embiid has the potential to look really silly in the long run. Defense is the more important thing for a big and Embiid is an historical game change on that end while Jokic is a slight positive at best. Jokic's offense is great, but he needs the ball in his hands to create and he'll never match the top tier guards and wings on offense.

8-10 should be really between Embiid, George, Lillard here that's for sure.

I had some doubts on Embiid's durability but as of now PG isn't an Ironman himself either, also coming off both shoulder surgeries.

Voted Embiid, but it's close.

For those who says Jokic over Embiid might look silly in a few years? Well it could also be the opposite too.
