I think they want more than that. Xi wants to dominate "his half" of the world and later, the other half. His regime has reduced civil rights drastically and believes it's good t shoot protesters.

So this behavior shouldn't be shocking.

China is literally putting Uighurs in “re-education camps” from which people “disappear.” They’re publivally forcing couples to divorce, publically forcing people to eat pork/drink alcohol.

The NBA should be goddamned embarrassed that it’s seek Chinese money when things like this are going on there.

For a league that prides itself on being progressive... it's a shame. The almighty dollar I suppose.

It's a LOT more than a shame imo. It proves that all their other progressive social justice stuff is just posturing, it is absolutely meaningless if they don't back it up in practice. Any time Adam Silver or an NBA exec opens their mouth about social justice they should be booed into silence. Complete hypocrites.

A lot of foreign companies do business in China for many years. The NBA has a lot of lessons to learn from them.

Supporting a system of government where the whole population can elect its own members of state is something to apologize for?

Good. Honestly, I hope this helps drive a larger wedge between the CPC & the NBA. I don't want to support a sports league that kowtows to a repressive, abusive, backwards political party like the CPC.

Corporations do not care at all about human rights or social justice. It's all just marketing BS, best lesson to be learned here is the only appropriate response to give when a US corporation harps about their 'progressive values' yet does business with the CCP is to laugh and walk away.

Exactly. Im just confused by many reactions. 99.9999999999% of corporations make the same exact move. Morey was selfish, ignorant and childish.

The NBA (as with thousands of US/Western corporations) sold out to China a long time ago. You deal with China, you're dealing with the Chinese Communist Party. Always been the case. They made them large partners and became beholden to them.

If the league wants to prostate every other consideration to every last dollar, it can. But fans have a right to call them out on it. It's not like they're manufacturing farm equipment. It's a different type of business.

Every corporation world wide is a sell out, LOL. Shouldn't really come as a surprise all of a sudden to anyone.

Remember Nike giving Kaepernick an extension and people praising them for being "Woke", etc...? They extended Kaepernick because they felt that associating with him would help them sell more shoes/apparel to their target demographic. All the same while, they donated more money to Republican candidates for public office than they did Democrats, because they're a big corporation looking for tax breaks. Nike played both sides of the coin.

If the NBA and other corporations were really that big about freedom/democracy/liberties/social justice, they never would've made any inroads to places like China/middle east to begin with. The fact that they did indicates they're just another corporation whose primary objective is to collect as much money as they can from anywhere they can get it from.

While there is a good point about the NBA and Adam Silver bending over backwards for China is unexcusable. I don't understand the finger point to Kerr, Pop or Lebron for not commenting on a crisis happening outside the U.S., unless the issue in Hong Kong is different from all other international incidents that happen outside the U.S. that those 3 people in question haven't commented on.

Trying to tie the issues Lebron, Kerr & Pop made comments on in the past as hypocritical, is extremely suspect to me and I feel go beyond the issue with Morey being silenced by the NBA.

Like someone was waiting for that "Aha!" moment, to delegitimize the issue those three men did bring up.

Maybe, I'm missing something and someone can clarify why Lebron, Pop & Kerr should speak up about this and the fact they haven't "immediately" made a statement is hypocritical.

Call them out on it. Just understand that China and US businesses are extremely intertwined. Also, im sure very few people in these threads actively take steps to boycott Chinese goods. Just seems like a lot of people with nothing to lose commenting on an obvious outcome.

China has had a horrible record of human rights violations flr a very long time. Nothing has changed. After the tweet, everything happening how EVERYONE expected it to.

NBA coming out with a defensive apologetic (and pathetic) response has just emboldened China to demand more here.
