Sometimes this could be because of the environment, maybe the Pelicans organization just aren't holding him accountable for his weight or something. Why not hire some of the best trainers and nutritionists to oversee his conditioning 24/7? He really needs it.

Then again, the dedication to slim down still needs to come from Zion himself. I remember Marcus Smart being chubby around the waist during his first few years with the Celtics, yet he always talked about trying to get into better shape. Then boom, for the past 2-3 seasons he's noticeably slimmed down because of a strict dietary regimen (I think he went on a plant-based diet or something), and he's maintained it ever since. That's sheer dedication.

It must be hard for Zion too, being in New Orleans and all. I heard the food is good there.

Zion was so efficient from the field before the break ... Now I know it's just 2 games, but he was under 50% vs Clippers and he is 6-16 for 14 points vs Memphis so far

He had 23, 7 and 5 in 25 minutes today.i agree he’s not moving well, and really hasn’t in the NBA. But he’s extremely strong going to the rim and is scoring at will despite not having as many highlight dunks as people would like.its crazy how good he’s been despite never really looking in shape.

This was a favorable match up for him but he still looked heavy and lumbering and out of position defensively. They have a cupcake schedule the rest of the way so he'll start to look better but kid needs to get in shape.

Shouldn't it be Zion's responsibility to hire those people and follow their instructions?

I wouldn't say dominated. 23/7/5 on 21 shots while playing 0 defense (even the commentator called him out for his lack of hustle).

With that said, I think lots (or at least speaking for myself) are just talking about how out of shape he is. He isn't moving right and is clear as day the heaviest he's ever been. The fact that he put up 23/7/5 while being so out of shape is the frustrating part. Him being able to play 30+ minutes a game, being able to put effort on the defensive end, and being more explosive and a lot quicker would be amazing to watch.
