Yup. If they're going to let people qualify for higher contracts because they made the All-Star team or All-NBA teams, then the All-Star team and all NBA teams shouldn't be based on position. Players that deserve to make it don't make it and players who don't deserve to make it make it. It's not a real representation of the best players in the league.

And they never should have considered defensive awards. Gobert, Green, Noah, Chandler etc. aren't supermax players.

If the All-Star team is criteria for getting a higher contract then All-Star game should represent 24 best players from the league, not 12 from East and 12 from West. A lot of good players get screwed in West every year while in East we get All Stars like Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Goran Dragic etc.

He's right. The supermax hoodwinks small market franchises into overpaying their stars in order to stay relevant, but in reality it makes it harder to compete which helps ensure bigger markets advance further in the playoffs.

And it's mildly ironic following the Wall-Westbrook trade. Two of your supermax success stories demanded out and literally had to be traded for each other because their contracts were so monstrous that no one else could afford to match them.

I've said it for a while; the additional money that comes from a supermax should be moved off the cap to allow the original team to still somewhat build a team around their star.

nope, small market gets to dip in the revenue pool due to poor mgmt, you give out super max you deal with it as such

What do you mean exactly?

I'm not in any shape or form trying to defend the super max (its very flawed imo) but in Westbrook's case, he didn't request a trade from the team that he originally signed the supermax for. Westbrook completely seems like the type of player to have stuck it out with OKC for the remainder of his career. Presti was just smart and capitalized on a rebuild opportunity while he still had the chance.

the luxury tax was made to punish big market teams for over spending, that $ obviously gets distributed equal to small market teams who dont go into tax, super max was there to also help retain home grown stars....just how much hand holding do we need to give to small markets? every owner are billionaires these days

Yeah I'm starting to think this is definitely the way forward. I think that there should also be a commensurate rule that contracts for players who aren't the designated franchise tag player to be capped at a lower amount, I think a little lower than the current maxes, which would create the effect of discouraging stars teaming up because only one person on a team could get the highest salary.

It helps having a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo who's been content with staying in Milwaukee. Now they must continue to make him happy which shouldn't be to difficult.
