I said on draft day the Suns should have drafted him. It would be the perfect scenario.

Play and learn from one of the best PG's of all time.

Once CP3 retires/leaves in a year, take over and grow with Book/Ayton.

I really feel the Suns missed a huge opportunity there.

He's the only player from this draft class who has a shot at being an all-timer in my opinion.

All the advanced metrics, the eye test and his character pointed towards him being a winning player and a culture changer.

He's a guard who can play on and off ball and be switchable on defense, qualities that are invaluable in the modern NBA (before too but today more than ever). And his efficiency numbers were through the roof for a guard, which means there is room for an increase in volume.

We'll see how his career goes but I think he's going to be a star and his ceiling is incredibly high in my opinion. Like a weird mix of half-court Penny Hardaway (without the athleticism) and Klay Thompson.

2 thoughts so far on Hali:
1) If you needed another point of evidence to show that Divac may have been the worst GM in the last 10 years remember that the reason for not picking Doncic was they didn't want to take the ball out of Fox's hands. Now look at how Fox and a secondary ballhandler (like Hali) can work together. Not like we needed this evidence, though.

2) The detractions on Haliburton remind me a bit of the ones on Doncic pre-draft. "Not a spectacular scorer", "shooting may not translate", "lack of athleticism means low ceiling, high flow", etc. What Doncic taught us then and Haliburton is teaching us now is great fundamentals combined with an elite BBIQ can overcome the lack of standout physical abilities.

No one said his shooting wouldn't translate. Dude was like 50% from the field and 43% from deep in college and over 80% at the line.

This is one of the reasons I had him as one of the top three players in this draft class. Never even thought the Kings would've had the chance to pick him. The way he plays puts him into that "super role-player" type position in terms of potential. Can't wait to see how he plays in a more featured role. If Fox can turn into a better off-ball player/shooter they have the potential to be one of the best backcourts in the league.

A lot of people had issues with his form.

And I didn’t want to bring Luka into this but since it happened, the overlap between the Luka and Hali doubters is likely heavy. It’s a great sign that you should never take that persons view on basketball seriously. These were both clear cut easy calls as being winning players.

Hali and Fix fit perfectly. Backcourt set for a decade.

I don't think they 'taught us' that at all, they just happened to make it work. It happens frequently that smart players just don't have the athleticism or size or whatever to be very effective in NBA games even though they can do that at every other level. And then some other players are able to develop new things or speed up etc and are sometimes even better in the NBA than college/overseas. No one really knows until the games are being played, though, everyone's just sort of loose guessing when it comes to intangibles and IQ. But scouts definitely know and highly value those guys who just seem to get it, even if there's still some risk there (e.g. it was a semi-shock Doncic fell to #3 overall and most folks liked Halliburton in the top 8 or so).

That Ass/TO rate is amazing for a rookie. He will earn the trust of coaches and in turn big minutes for teams with championship aspirations for his entire career if he keeps that up. Especially with his frame and size.

He was one of my top guys this year but I would pump the brakes a little bit on lower volume guys like Halliburton. Taking only open shots and making only clear reads could easily inflate your efficiency stats, or at least set yourself up for efficiency that isn't scale-able. Definitely not a knock on Halliburton--who could easily up his volume--just a lesson I'm remembering form us getting too excited about guys who had pretty efficient like 11/5 rook seasons in the past.

Haven't seen enough stylistically, but I think he definitely fits the archetype of a Brogdon sort of guard. High impact and efficient from the jump. Might not have an insane ceiling like other players but way more likely to reach his ceiling than others.
