NBA should cut to a 2 minute game to not lose millenial dogs.

Maybe just do rock, paper, scissors - best two out of three. Wait, maybe a game of lightning, 5 players from each team. 2 reserves per team just in case someone gets hurt or fatigued. The rest of the rosters can go find a new profession.

I really love the idea of planning a day at the arena with my family, purchasing some tickets, getting my kids ready, sitting in traffic to get to the game, waiting in line to shuffle into the arena, standing in line to get some game day food, go to sit down and get ready to watch, now ****, my child has to pee. I come back and now I am leaving - game over.

The duration of basketball games fits an older era. Today many people just watch the highlights in YouTube.
My claim is this: if no other sports existed and basketball was invented today, the duration of the game would have been much shorter - maybe something like 10 minutes, and no more than 20 minutes.
Do you agree with this claim? And if so, do you think it will still happen (given current state of basketball today)? Could it maybe co-exist side by side with the current game?

I mean back at school when we had these tournaments once a year against other schools, games were usually 2x10 or even 2x5 minutes. As a player, i always found that horrible, as games were way too short. As soon as it started, it was over. I'd rather have my 4x10 minute games.

What I actually believe that could happen: a basketball game being played on sets. One quarter = one set, each being 10 minutes long. If the game is 2-2, a final set would then be played ending with a variant of Elam Ending.

The reasoning is clear: whole game would become much more meaningful, while we could still potentially get a garbage time if a team leads 3-0 after 3 quarters.

Isn't that kind of how boxing or MMA works? The main event could be seconds long if there's a quick knockout. I guess this hypothetical basketball game has no undercard to support it but I suppose you could add a G-League game and maybe some other form of entertainment.

48 minute games would seem like a breeze if there wasn't 90 minutes of stoppages.

bin timeouts altogether, never really understood why people think they're good, they're basically used as momentum stoppers. momentum, one team getting into the flow and building a rhythm, the thing that's actually exciting to watch.

OP have you played basketball before? This would make the need to superstars even greater, less mins played will mean you want the best players out there. The game isn't meant to be played at the elementary level.

Those wouldn't be quarters then. They'd be halves.

Maybe the future generations should prioritize lengthening attention spans

I really hope not, I imagine mojority of fans still like watch basketball, therefor more basketball. As a guy who watch Euroleague and FIBA, I am very happy with 10 minute quarters, I think thats just right, and if we had significant change it would probably be that, 40 minute FIBA style, tho I hope that doesnt happen for history sake. People who like to just consume info in few minutes, well these highlight videos, tweets etc. will still be there, there are numerous ways to experience game nowadays, whenever its highlights or full games, everyone wins and I dont think extreme changes happen. Also remember that if we make games much shorters, highlight videos will no longer be that good, because we will get less highlight plays. I think NBA need to work WITH content creators like Downtobuck or FreeDawkins, instead of blocking them, I get that right now they are steeling your property, but make a deal with these youtube chanells, split the revenue, these chanells were popular for a reason.

I think if they played short sets, say first to 31 with a 2pt lead and go best of 5 it would be really entertaining, blowouts wouldn't be as bad because once you thrash them enough you win and can go home and for the losing team they are in it until they lose 3 sets and then its just over no playing when you have no chance.

Whatever happens you can't complain, you have to let the younger generation just watch whatever product they put on the floor.

If they want 1 minute quarters that should be good enough for everyone else......
I'm so tired of the typical......
