He does a lot of little things no defense that add a lot of value, but as a man defender (which is his main role) I think he leaves something to be desired. He's kind of a B+ level defender across a variety of positions and much worse than that against quicker guards.

I think this is accurate. He's, IMO a top 10-12 perimeter defender, but that probably doesn't translate to more than about the 30th most impactful defender in the league (ish).

As a non-Jazz fan, but a Jazz appreciator, he just seems to me to be a lot smarter than 90% of the league in terms of knowing where the ball is going and where he should put himself. I feel like I watched the him a lot before, but his is more of a newfound development he has made in his game.

Another thing I absolutely love about this guy is that I have noticed he holds the ball in his hands for the least amount of team required for what he feels he needs to do on offense. He is a model of intelligence and efficiency.

???

Ask Luka and Dame how crappy he is.

Simmons might be best perimeter defender in the league.

Very illogical response. Pause and think.

Cool......just did. Ben Simmons is still the best perimeter defender in the league. You're still very wrong about Biid being better.

He is a smart player and that shows on both ends. He's come along way too. Early in his career it was extremely stressful whenever he took a dribble because his decision making was just a little off. Nowadays he seems to make the right decision almost every time and very quickly like you said.

This shows up on defense and on the glass too. His best defensive attribute is probably bumping people and getting good position. He knows how to get his body in the way of what the offense wants to do.

Royce also takes the hardest matchups every night, but he's just kind of above average at "locking down" those matchups. He works hard but is almost always at a size, speed, or athleticism advantage...sometimes it's all of the above and it gets really tough for him. He also takes some bad angles on screens which really hurts his ability to guard in PnR.

Nice to see Royce getting some love. He's really blossomed this season. He's a beast at shooting the 3, crashing the boards (for his size), and his defense is great. He definitely is handed the most difficult assignments on most nights, and more often than not he does a good job containing them. Hell he held Giannis to like 7pts in the first half their last matchup.

Larry Nance deserves to be nominated. People who haven’t watched him this season don’t know but before he went down with injury he was having an All-NBA defensive season.

2nd in the league in deflections per game behind Simmons.
5th in defensive loose balls recovered per game.
3rd in steals per game.
-9.0 defensive on-off and he made a terrible defensive supporting cast look pretty good when he was actually on the court.

Nominate dort and I can't take this seriously without him in here. He's all time level as far as guards

Well can't take you too seriously if you consider Dort as the 4th best defender in NBA.

He’s probably missed too many games.

Bam has to find his way into the top of this list.

Dude’s mobility & lateral movement for a big is ridiculous. He has the running gait of a wing.

He’s probably the most versatile & switchable player in the league along with Giannis & AD. Can legitimately guard 1-5. I don’t know how anyone could think Simmons is better defensively than him.
