But not when the player has 3 years left in his contract after this year!

It's his own fault, judging by the reports of what he demanded in terms of a second star beside him.
No one to blame but himself.
He would have had a much better chance at multiple finals appearances by staying with the Raptors.

Not only that, but he handpicked Playoff P as the second star. He left the Raptors and turned down the Lakers because he wanted to play with Playoff P.
He dug his own grave.

Iunno if it’s true or not but there’s reporting that he or that Dennis guy asked us to trade siakam for backboard P

Kawhi and Ibaka should go back to Toronto.

Has to be one of the most head scratching contracts ever. And the thing is EVERYONE was saying it at the time. I've never seen the Nba community so unanimous on a contract before that wasn't for a legit superstar

I believe his first choices were Jimmy Butler or Kevin Durant but they already had their eyes set for Miami and NY respectively so the Clippers had to go in hard for PG or else Kawhi was going to the Raps or Lakers.

Ok, who wants to pay him that much AND trade something to get him? LAC will have to eat that salary or take back a really bad contract if they want to get rid of him

Add that contract to the Morris contract and If i were Kawhi, I'd be out.

Maybe. Depending on the context. There's a lot more money tied up in Kennard. But this one still confuses me...
Utah trades Ed Davis + 2 draft picks to New York.
Then basically the next day... Minnesota gives up a draft pick to get Ed Davis.
A healthy Ed Davis has played 8 minutes over the past month for the worst team in the L .

playing kennard is expendable currently as all the other clippers are shooting darn near career bests from 3pt land. that might have something to do with it.

I think Luke needs to have more playmaking responsibility thrust upon him. He's a great shooter and definitely has talent, but he's been too deferential to the other guys on the floor when he's played. To me the move is trading Lou for a George Hill or maybe even Rondo and have Luke play next to Bev with the second unit.

Luke Kennard - the four year, 64 million dollar mistake?
Luke Kennard has played his way completely out of the rotation on the Clippers. Anyone else surprised by this? Last year looked like he was on the verge of breaking out.
I know his defense is terrible, but offensively he is pretty good. I know he’s had a confidence issue and plays almost scared at times. But I never seen this coming. I figured he’d flourish in LA.
So what do they do with him now? They’ve completely tanked his value. It’s hard to move a 64 million dollar contract when other teams know he doesn’t even make your rotation.
Discuss.

Pistons fan trying to dunk on the Clippers right now is funny. Though turning Kennard and all the 2nds into Bey was certainly a good transaction for the Pistons.
I think Kennard will be fine next year when the actual extension kicks in because Lou will be gone. Just hard for a team to play both of those guys. He'll be slightly overpaid, but Kennard anchoring a bench unit with with of Kawhi/PG will work just fine moving forward. So this year just view him as the rookie contract he is, no big deal.

Such a strange contract extension. The guy was a restricted free agent so you could match any deal and he has been injury prone. I still like his game though and he can really shoot the ball.

This is why you don't premium money to players when they only have one skill.
Bertans is another. 80 million dollar 5 year deal. And for what? They get hot for one year and are borderline rotation fodder the next. Stop paying money to 3-ball specialist with zero other talent and this wouldn't happen.

I’m not doing that at all. I like Kennard. Just surprised by this. So... respectfully, you’re wrong here.
