Game was lost because Clips got away with playing midgets around Ayton, he needs to be more involved

When did he get hurt? Not saying he’s not, it’s obvious to me he doesn’t look right, he was lighting us up earlier, and with no Zu and a hobbled Morris I thought he was going kill us.

Chris Paul also looks hurt, a step slower than usual for sure. It might be COVID or his body is still getting used to the intensity and grind of playoff ball again.

The ankle. 13 minutes logically makes no sense otherwise IMO, considering how bad CP3 was. At one point they chose to run Book at the point, and he was coughing it up every possession...if Payne is healthy, that strategy is pure madness.

Payne is clearly still bothered with his ankle so I don’t know how you can even try to limit Paul

Yeah, Book cannot be primary ball handler in a unit. Paul or Payne need to be in there. Paul didn't play THAT badly except for his missed 3s, which will happen. Outside of that he was 8-13 with 8 ast and 2 turnovers. Too much hero ball from Book. He had gotten away from that for about 7 games before the last 4 games and has not shot well since (except from 3 tonight he hit some).

CP3 playing with a slow pace is what's killing the Suns offense right now. He wastes so much time bringing the ball up and burning the clock leading to a bad possession. Also not taking advantage of Ayton against their small ball lineup was ridiculous. Could've had Ayton feasting or living at the line at worst with the Clippers missing Zubac.

Payne game was an anomaly. His speed took advantage of weary Clipper legs and overcompensation towards Booker. Since Bookers game has become less potent and the Clips have their sixth wind, the speed game of Payne is far less effective. He drove all night but was denied time and again. If Suns win this, it will be CP3 that leads them through the storm, not Payne.

I'm guessing Paul is still feeling the Covid effects. Also, when you're old (as Paul is), and you take a layoff (2 weeks), it takes longer to get your body back in gear. So he may be fighting that, too.

He is just over the hill

Pharmcat wrote:Maybe it’s the effects of covid , or the postseason yips have made their way. But if the Suns have any chance to win this series (it’s already pretty low) they need to bench CP3 and start Payne and play more uptempo. CP has ruined their flow, is flopping around for an Oscar , and looks terrible. His cliff is right around the corner at any minute .

The only question is if Monty has the guts to do it.

Oh my god...I do not even know what to say...

Good job with another bad hot take. Keep it up.

That flop was ridiculous indeed. Other than that, he brings himself into shape through games. Finals or not, no other option, so ..

He tries too hard to sell for fouls - Many of the attempts with legs all out.

Game 3 he hurt something, which is why they played CP 39 minutes, don't remember what, ankle maybe

He carved up Denver for 26/10 on 63/75 shooting, where was the ailing shoulder then?

It's a combination of not being in playoff shape and the Clippers also defending well.

It won’t happen. A player of Chris Paul’s status doesn’t get benched. However it’s hard to argue the Suns have looked better in this series with Chris Paul

He sprained his ankle and was questionable and then probably for game 4.

In the first two games he scored 40 on 50% shooting and the last 3 he scored 12 on 27.7% shooting.

Not saying it's going to happen, but if CP3 goes out and drops 35/15 and leads them to victory tonight this thread is going to look very foolish.

Monty will not have the guts to bench CP3 that is for sure. Its the same situation as Doc unwilling to bench Simmons.
