You know what would be really exciting and interesting that silver and co could do instead of gimmick tournaments, bring back defense to basketball. Right

I am all for it so long as those games replace useless regular season games.

I’m also for a larger play in tourney where, again, those games replace regular season games.

82 games of Load management, back to backs and overall lacklustre hustle is just brutal. NBA has no choice but to switch it up.

Cut the regular season down to 72 games and add more meaningful games to the calendar.

Play in tourney is fantastic as it allows a much larger fan base to enjoy the playoffs.

I can see many of higher paid players simple load managing during the tourney. 1 million is chump change to some of these guys. The only way I can see this working is with some more incentives.

The mid season tournaments in soccer make sense because they are:
1) Domestic Cup - nationwide where every team competes and teams in lower divisions get to compete against higher teams if they make a high enough round and have potential for 'giant killers'
2) the European tournaments where you get to play teams from other countries that aren't in their league.

The NBA's is more of a joke because it'd still just only be the 30 teams, so it lacks the lustre of those tournaments. If it was a tournament with say the top 8 NBA teams, top 4 euro teams, gleague Champs, and 3 other international teams it'd have more interest (and those teams would have to be able to compete, which is unlikely with how basketball is, not just an NBA bloodbath)

This is dumb. I hope the NBA doesn’t go through with this idea

like it but it remains to be seen how this would affect how players view the post season.

example, what if this becomes the end goal for most players and not the post season - not good
what if this causes in-team fighting between the stars and the have nots.

the nba doesn't care about the product. it is a slave to ratings. the nba fights mlb and nfl for the american audience. right now the nba gets almost no network coverage versus mlb, nfl, ncaaf, or even ncaam. it's only absolute big4 network coverage are the finals

Make it winner of Allstar game gets $1M each

Incentive to play and make it as Allstar, and actually play 48 mins of quality basketball

Yeah wild to adopt highly popular ideas from the most popular sports leagues in the world. Whatever could he possibly be thinking about?

This would obviously reduce a too long regular season and give players an extended mid-season break as they get eliminated but with a real incentive to try and win. This leads to better basketball in the 2nd half of the RS as a bonus.

Seems like an interesting concept with a lot of details to work out, but on the surface should add revenue and interest to the league. Feels pretty win/win for everyone.
what highly popular idea? Nobody cares about the domestic cups in soccer anymore, and they have a century of history.

FA Cup - one of the oldest sports competitions in the world, and yet regularly used by big teams as a way to give experience to their young players, only vaguely relevant because small teams that could never win the league (a status that doesn't exist in the nba) can dream of winning it, seen as a distraction by most fans.

The league is barely watchable as is. With all the flopping and lack of defense but instead of addressing that they add more gimmicks. Why not add a 4pt shot while we're at it?.. smh

Terrible idea. Maybe if they replace the meaningless all star game with this though it might have some merit.

Player empowerment already killed the regular season. They’re trying to generate interest in it again. Maybe the in-season tournament winner gets a bye or an extra win.

Dumb. Teams will rest stars. Stars will like the rest since only one team makes the million and they make that much every 2-3 games anyways.
