Well, I think we might be sleeping on how good Duarte has been. NBA.com has him #1 on their rookie ladder, with Barnes at #2 and Mobley at #3.

I think Barnes retakes that number 1 spot (and think he should have been before, but I get that Duarte is more of a surprise). Barnes now passed him as the leading scorer among rookies,is doing it more effectively, while being a much better rebounder and defender.
When does the rookie ladder come out? I think it might be on Tuesday.

Ah thanks.

Man, for our 8th pick, we were really debating about Moody, JB, Kuminga , Keon , Sengun m Giddy and even Springer. Glad Franz worked out for us so well. I mean it's neck and neck against Giddy in this so small a sample size so far though.

Just goes to show us fans are leagues behind in talent evaluation lol

Yeah Franz has been a pleasant surprise so far

Kuminga seems more like a project. Don’t really think he’s gonna contribute to winning basketball for at least a few years

Who knows right now. SB and Franz were supposed to be offensively "lacking" of the top picks because of lack of offensive reputation on their college careers. Yet, Both of them scored double digits all through the regular season so far.

So maybe Kuminga isn't really a project/raw as we all think he is. That's what I am hoping to see.. if ever GSW decides to give him a chance anyway.

That’s definitely fair yeah. Although like you said. I think Kuminga is gonna have a harder time finding opportunities since GSW is actually looking to win seriously this year.

Barnes will be a problem once he matures physically but his frame is superb. One thing at a time but that midrange is very promising.

For Mobs he’s very much like AD (+ defense - minus scoring) instead of Bosh with similarities to a less athletic but taller Russell on defense. I had Garnett but he was abit more bouncy and shorter. Never saw Bosh having this kind of defensive potential.

Both have as we probably know a super high floor and obviously plus impact players on winning which is unusual for a rookie because they aren’t the easiest positions to play being a first year and young to boot.

Hoping for more playing time to Butler today and for the OKC wings to stop clanking easy looks from Giddey’s passing lol. Dude should be averaging 7+ assists.

Anyway once again great class so many rooks to follow!

On a lighthearted note, i've been thinking of nick names, no idea on Barnes ('Scottie 2 Hottie' is just eeehh, not a fan), but Mobley's is probably much easier, something like The Mob or The Mob'ster

Any argument between raps fans and Mobley/Barnes on the the Rookie thread refer to Barnes & Moble :)

Here’s a few of my own:
Evan “Mobility or Mobile” Mobley
Scottie “Bucky” Barnes
James “Boogie” Bouknight
Jonathan “Kumquat” Kuminga
Josh “Giddy4” Giddey
Trey “Lupin” Murphy III
Herbert “Sutcliffe” Jones
Isaiah “Chopped” Livers
Aaron “Andrew” Wiggins
Jericho “Iron Man” Sims
Luka Garza “Strip”
Moses “M&M” Moody
Franz “The German or German” Wagner

(Bonus points if anyone can catch the references).

Nicknames are short sharp and sweet and plays on words for fun.

Haha I’m still waiting for Double O to take off that’s a sick nickname for Onyeka. Also Sexland will get renamed to Mobland in due time lol.

I don't mind the Winter Soldier reference for Scottie. But James Bouknight will forever be Hollow Da Don to me.

I agree.... him and Moody and even JB in CHA are tough situation rookie career-wise. In another team, we might be talking about them and their production right now.

Idk about that. Kuminga’s game is really rough, throwing him in a **** team and giving him the keys would be disastrous. He already has really bad offensive instincts , shot making ability , shot selection and decision making. He is at his best on the warriors with the hope his worst tendencies are ironed out.

Well, JK was supposed to be someone who can score. I mean that was the debate in our board in the Barnes vs Kuminga thread. IF he was in a tanking team, his development would be to place PGs that can give him the most chance to score.

Besides, as stated a lot... before this season started, who here would have though SB and FRanz would be scoring like this despite not having the reputation to do so? Or that Giddy would translate so well his game from the NBL to the NBA? Or Duarte being talked about like this? Lots of IF about Kuminga and we still hasn't seen yet what he can do cuz of injuries/PT.

Would Detlaf Schrempf be a good comparison for Wagner?

wagner and giddey both produced in their respective leagues. Alot of giddey's criticism was based on this notion that he couldn't dribble despite everything pointing to the contrary because "it looked sloppy". His shot comes and goes and i have my doubts he becomes a legit franchise cornerstone but i think it's settled that he won't be a "out of the league in 5 years" type that a decent amount of people expected. Wagner was a great player in college, plus athlete, good skill set, great defender. Hate for him was weird, people thought he was kispert or something. Kuminga was never "supposed to be the one who scored", i guess if it was fanswho didn't watch his games. He has really bad touch around the rim, broken jumper, and his decision making in the halfcourt is mind boggling. I guess there's an "if" element to him but based on everything we've seen he's best set as a role player that rim runs on fast breaks, attacks closeouts with his above average handling and back door cuts. Duarte seems like a weird drop, he was rising in tons of team and media boards and alot of people expected him to be a good player out of the gate.

The German has quietly been the 3rd best so far this year for mine. He sounds like an X-men character

Anyway all the rooks today have played well. Suggs showing signs of progress which is great to see.

This race will go down to the wire.

Barnes, Mobley, Wagner, Duarte, Giddey will all keep each other honest.

Hopefully Giddey gives the Clips Luka PTSD flashbacks lol.

Thorpe and Ford talked Wagner on their last pod and Thorpe essentially said he got it wrong on Wagner. Talked about how he thought he was too soft for the league but that he's imposing himself and bullying players. Really good listen if you haven't yet and are interested (double whammy for Magic fans with a Suggs segment too).
