Lol Ray Allen is definitely the better player with a better career, but no need to disrespect Michael Redd. 2 decent season? Redd had 7 solid seasons where he was a top 50 player in the league.

Allen was much better but Redd would be spoken about so much more if he took a bit less $$$ and went to play w/ LBJ. He would be an ideal running mate to him. If I remember correctly, they settled for the exact opposite in fit w/ Larry Hughes.

Allen is the superior player. However to be fair you are over simplifying it. You only get to do take clutch situations when your team is competitive and thats only when you're on good teams. Even in Milwaukee Allen was surrounded by Sam Cassell and Glenn Robinson. Those teams had substantially better plays around him than Redd got during his healthy years.

I remember Ray being more of a complete player on offense particularly when he was running the show in Seattle.. better handles, passing, getting to the rim, etc.

The Boston and Miami stints makes the comparison even more lopsided as far as popularity.

I have a Michael Redd jersey that I still wear sometimes lol

He was good but as others have said, injuries derailed his career. And he was never as good as Ray anyway.

Ray Allen is a likely HOF player.

Michael Redd is what, a one time all star that spent most of his career battling injuries.

No comparison.

Op should have left Ray Allen's name out of the thread though.

Agreed. I’m actually fine with saying that he was similar to Ray, but don’t act like they should be viewed as equals when Ray has 18 seasons of NBA play compared to about half of that for Redd (several seasons of minimal play), the former 3 point record, 2 all-nba selections (2nd and 3rd) compared to one 3rd, 10 all-stars compared to 1, and 2 championships to none. As others have stated, Redd was a likable player and was a deadline shooter like Ray, but he just didn’t have the career to stand with Ray outside of a few comparable seasons.

2 decent seasons when we're comparing him to Ray Allen obviously.

It's like asking why people talk about Paul Pierce but not Danny Granger

I remember when Redd was one of a couple at the time making 20m per season. He was productive and he was a great shooter but it didn't translate into team success.

It's closer than people think before Redd's injury. Allen was a better shooter but Redd was a better one-on-one iso player. Allen's handles were never really much unlike Redd's. People forget before Redd got hurt he was basically becoming a better scorer every year. Redd's best season is arguably better than Allen's too. As far as the losing teams he was on, I don't blame Redd because the Bucks organization was basically a clown show for the majority of Herb Kohl's tenure as owner and he hired some really dumb GMs several times. Plus it's not like Allen's teams had that much more playoff success with him as the top player. Allen had only been out of the first rd twice with him as the best player and his teams had way more help than some of Redd's Bucks teams.

i always wanted my team to trade for michael redd but in retrospect as the 2nd post in the thread detailed it would have been for naught. His career just went down the hill to no fault of his own. He was injury laden and very quickly his career was over. I definitely think he's a "what if" type of player had he stayed healthy but there's better "what if" players already IMO such as brandon roy.

That seems like a really cool story. Would you kindly tell us more about it?

Allen was the better player prime for prime, but Redd was on an awful, injury-riddled team for nearly his entire career with very little help. Allen was at times literally surrounded by hall of famers. It's not a fair comparison.

I get the point youre trying to make here, but no need to disrespect Bosh like that.

Bosh just got inducted into the HoF and was a key part of one the most historically significant teams, Redd isn't even close to that level. Ray and KG are definitely a level above Bosh, but CB is probably 2 levels above Redd.

Michael Redd's career was cut short by injuries and he was on a bad Bucks team that didn't really win much, he was not the defender that Ray was either.

Ray Allen had a much longer career and won championships with the Heat and Celtics so that's why he's talked about more, had he not won later in his career his ranking would be much lower than it is today.

KG's on a completely other level than Ray too...KG is to Bosh as Ray is to Redd is completely fair. The first statement is easier for people to get because they understand a top at worst 15 guy in KG and a barely top 100 guy in bosh.
