this is the result of analytics and how it has undermined the way the game has evolved. this here quickley shot is merely an exagerration of what you see COUNTLESS times with any given game, ie the taking of the 3pt shot when a team is 1-ahead, 2- behind by 1, 3- behind by 2, 3- or tied, or taking the 3 on a fast break...and as a last shot no less

the rules are developing and encouraging stupidity and players will adapt and evolve on it...highly developed stupid players

The shot is crazy but I have seen this happen time after time in a regular game the guy under the basket, who could lay it up or perhaps get fouled going for the basket, passes to the outside and they keep it moving until someone takes a 3 and misses. Crazy just crazy.

how many potential game winners or game tie-ers are lost because the shooter takes the low percetage 3 instead of the high percentage 2. it's more than crazy it's insaaaaane

that's one thing analytics doesn't account for. that and ingraining players with the concept of stupity. i don't understand why the coach is throwing up his hands - this is the way players are playing the game

stop. Any analytics person would tell you a layup or fts are better than a turnaround fade away, especially on a 2v1 fast break.

This play is anti analytics if anything.

what i want to know is,,,,how many posters replying here are laughing at the shot but LOVE the 3, because they are turning a blind eye to the obvious. iq doesn't take this shot if the line was at 26'

ok even if he misread the scoreboard, there are nearly 8 minutes left in the game. There's no need to take an turnaround three pointer.

analytics say a lay up - which he had (though it is debatable as the contest was coming) is better than a three. it isn't just about a player backing up into a three - he had two - count em - two players trailing that would have stepped into open threes had he just hit one of them.

in short, the three wasn't so much the problem (if he thought he didn't have the lay up) as much as the fact he should have hit either one of two open teammates trailing that could have stepped into it.

I mean there is shooting a 3 on a fast break. And then there is giving up a layup to dribble 4 times back and launch a dumbass 3.

What are you even talking about, just look at this play. You seem to think that because 3 is higher than 2, analytics rise made this possession, like thats all there is to it. God I hate when uneducated people talk stupid trash about scientific subject they dont understand.

???

Analytics would clearly be in favor of an open layup over a difficult 3 point shot by a bad 3 point shooter.

The pass is way too late from Toppin.

That's an easy lay up if he just places a simple bounce pass toward the rim with even decent timing.

When I played basketball you would freeze a guy out if he refused to fill the lane and cut to the basket on the break. Times have changed considerably.
