He's one of the brightest basketball minds we ever had.

Appreciate him while there's time.

I think commentary is supposed to at its best give insight both for fans who know absolutely nothing all the way to fans who know a lot. It's a large spectrum to cover. So if you are trying to cover that whole range, then you will have to say things that are obvious to people who know basketball, but not as obvious to someone who is just a casual watcher (which there are many). You will also have to make comments that go over casual watchers heads.

My mom LOVES basketball, been watching for 20 years, she will watch basically any teams play. She has never played basketball, she has never known the rules of basketball outside of what she's picked up from watching. I still explain to her why certain players do this or that or certain rules.

I think you can get in the internet forum and commentary world and think that most people watching basketball are like you.

Yeah, I have nothing against him personally. I appreciate everything he has done for the game. It's just most of what he says does not enhance the watching expierence for me. He reminds me a lot of John Madden (Rest in Peace) in how he calls games, just blatantly obvious stuff. As you say, it is probably geared more towards casual viewers.

So you don't like Hubie and you didn't like Madden. To me that's all I need to know to push "ignore."

Yup, I also like the fact he actually tries to explain basketball concepts not just state banalities such as:

1. It all comes down to the final 3 minutes.
2. Who wants it more? that is what wins basketball games.

and my favorite
3. Your best players has got to demand the ball and say get outta my way

Hubie was the first commentator i heard in my youth that i said wow that guy is smart af. He had the most sense of all time not to mention his other careers. At 13 i heard him say if the team losing can get it to ten point deficit by the 5 min of the 4th then they have a chance. Ive always kept that. Goat but for way more reason than what ive brought you

Hubie is one of my favorites. His analysis is just right for the average fan. Not too simple/obvious, and not too technical. He drops little bits of basketball knowledge here and there, and makes is easier by adding the "here you have a guy" and "you've got to give him credit"

Also like it when he gets fired up sometimes, it's great.

Yeah Right!

I was in fear COVID would put an end to his career on broadcast. Thank god it didn‘t!

I luv me some Hubie! Even if he‘s kind of repetitive… so is the Sunrise and Sunset, yet they are essential and calming each and every time.
