Ben Simmons still hasn’t played the whole year and it will probably take a 2 week ramp up just to get him back into shape. That means two weeks without Simmons, KD and Kyrie. The Nets could very well be out of the playoff picture during that two week span. No one should assume that Simmons is going to come back the same player as before. If Simmons, Green and a pick is the take it or leave it offer, then we know at worst Simmons and Green will still be available during the summer. Stand Pat with Harden and see what you can do this season.

Trading with your conference rival is so dumb, especially since it looks like one of those rare deals that may improve both teams.

Nets should call Harden's bluff and force Philly to try and jettison some of their players in the offseason to make room for him. There's no reason to just give Harden away to your rival because he might leave, especially considering that rival has to make a lot of roster moves just to have space for him in the offseason. Nets should just shut talks down and wait and see what happens in the summer. A lot can change between now and then

They'll lose so much trying to clear cap for Harden, it's such a poor point of leverage.

I love the "the Sixers will just sign Harden in the offseason" which ignores their cap situation. No one wants broken down Toby Harris and his albatross contract. Simmons is the only valuable trade piece they are willing to move.

This is the money quote:

"You’re trading for James Harden who wants at age 33 a $220M extension this summer."

If I'm Brooklyn, I take whatever I can get now.... and run.

This is how shrewd Morey is. There are rumors that Philly spent a lot of time talking with OKC as part of a multi-team trade where they would acquire Tobias Harris *RIGHT NOW* in the Harden trade.

What if all that is just showing the Nets "See? I can move Harris..."

Kyrie is the one that should be shopped not Harden. Irving is the least impactful of the big 3, the most injury prone, and now is a part time player due to the NYC mandate.

That's a good lineup, decent spacing with 3 great shooters, 4 ball handlers, 3 solid defenders.

I think you ideally would want to play Simmons at C with 4 shooters around him.

Kyrie
Curry
Harris
Durant

Not to mention Harden has all but given up on this Net team.

I do believe the Sixers have a path to get under the salary cap this offseason by trading Simmons into a team's capspace this summer (Spurs,Blazers,Pistons,ORL,OKC will have space). With the picks they get from that deal they could potentially deal Harris into another team's capspace. Obviously the Nets might have intel to believe that Harden is interested in reuniting with Morey.

That is an interesting lineup assuming they get sane Kyrie for the playoffs..also assuming Harris is back after his injury.

On offense it's great, but would get toasted on defense. Simmons is lost playing D at the 5. Can guard any other position but that one.

How in the world are the Sixers just gonna sign Harden to that type of contract in the off-season without trading for him?

When the Nets option goes away, so does all the semi good offers. Morey's over a barrel at that point.

Yes I don't understand this whole notion of 76ers just waiting till the offseason to sign Harden outright. With what cap space?

They'd lose all their picks and assets clearing out the cap space...just to give him a golden parachute contract.

Can't fall into the sunk cost fallacy though.

Gotta do what they can do for KD (and I guess that *** that came with him). If Harden says he's gone no matter what in the offseason then honestly Simmons straight up looks good.

76ers have the incentive to do this now to not waste Embiid's season but also I'm guessing they can talk to their owner if they get Harden now and win a ring about paying the luxury tax for one season to give it another go with a Harden/Harris/Embiid combo.

I agree, but wouldnt it be in BKN best interest to keep Harden and let their big 3 try to win it all this season atleast?

Ah actually... yeah great point.

It probably is worth it.

I don't see Ben Simmons helping the team anywhere near a Harden.

Irving and Durant are going to demand the ball in their hands, and unless Simmons is willing to change his role to off ball Center for the team... that just means it'll be Durant and Irving vs someone playing free saftey on defense against them and not covering Simmons at all. It'll make life a lot tougher.

Yeah this is about winning rings I agree, good point I changed my mind. The right move is to keep Harden regardless.

The East is full of **** teams this year anyways so it's just as likely the Nets get their **** together and stroll to the finals as anything. The #1 seed in the East right now would be ... 4th seed in the West... yeah that's as wide open as you'll ever see a division since the Nets enjoyed such things in like 2000 lol.

I think getting off of Tobias is cheaper than Simmons, Green, and a pick. Then its just cap space (plus the price to move Tobi).

Who says Brooklyn has anything left to say in the offseason about Harden's destination?
