All I can say is that the Sixers better finally make it out of the second round this year, or the mockery and vitriol their fans endured last year will be benign in comparison to what they’ll get this go around.

Nah, it'll be massively disappointing if we don't make the C Finals and there will be a lot of hand-wringing, but it very likely won't compare to last year. We'd probably fall to the Nets or Bucks or Heat, all of which are far better teams than last year's Hawks. The awful thing last year was how much more talented we were than ATL and how everything was lined up for us in the series, and then we just blew games. Huge cold streaks where no one could step up, Simmons disappearing, everyone looking kinda deer in headlights, while a worse team was just being generally competent and snatching the key games.

EDIT: wait are you talking about the mockery on the general board of realgm? From Knicks fan at Jersey sports bars? That's not really a thing to lose sleep over.

I think people dislike how a lot of Embiid’s calls come about. He flops around a lot.

He still baits some fouls, especially when younger players guard him from the perimeter (he seems to enjoy frustrating them), but it's like 1 in 8 of his foul calls. And teams can easily avoid that, most vets do so every single game. The rest of the fouls are him getting fouled on the drive or on rolls or putbacks, just him being a dominant big man. They're not baiting or flopping or anything else, he's 100% trying to score and gets fouled in the act. It gets pretty tiresome hearing people endlessly focus on the 1 in 8 and not just talking about the actual very good basketball player, confusing the one annoying part of his game for the real story there.

Sixers fans seem to think that Embiid and Harden are the only ones that get fouled so much.

No, they are the only ones who flail like that to bait the calls. Every dominant player has a lot of ticky tack fouls that go uncalled every game.

Embiid is actually FUN AF to watch when he's not baiting for fouls, he's had a lot of dominant games where he shoots free throws in the single digits. The game flows much nicer, and he is a joy to watch.

Its games where he flails around, falls to the ground at minimal contact, etc. that turns people off his game.

Crazy part is, he could put up 30ppg with less 3-4 less FTA per game than now, and his FG% would probably improve if he focused on that instead of flailing.

Dunno man, it's like Giannis doesn't exist this year for some reason, even though his counting stats are practically identical to Embiid's (and better analytics for Giannis). Which is probably for the best TBH because the things people usually say about him are new levels of dumb.

I'll admit they can be hard to watch at times. The first few games with Harden were beautiful basketball. He was getting them out in transition, great in the P&R and toggled seamlessly between facilitator and scorer depending on whether Embiid was on the court or on the bench. Things have changed a bit since then.

Harden's still a great facilitator, but it can get tiresome to watch him hunt fouls on most of his shooting possessions. He's incredibly skilled at it, so I get why he does it. I don't know how one can get a good look at a three while still hunting contact, but he manages it. He draws a lot of fouls, but he also ends a lot of possessions with his hands in the air, yelling at the refs instead of running back on D.

Embiid's pretty floppy and he can get too deep into foul-hunting mode sometimes, but overall he's really fun to watch.

I'm still happy about the trade and excited to see how the season plays out. I just hope they can find success as a duo without so much isolation foul hunting.

I enjoy watching them play their slower pace, Embiid and Harden like to set up the half court offence and break down the D (often resulting in going to the line), it’s more interesting to watch than run’n’gun teams that chuk up shots 5 seconds into their possession and just go back and forth all game doing that. This is more of a chess match and is more entertaining to watch imo.

then opposing players should stop fouling embiid and harden. what a concept. i don't think it's boring basketball, i've watched more 76ers games than bulls games since the all-star break.

Maybe the Spurs are more your thing, OP.

Committing flagrant fouls to prove a point (especially if excessive) seems like a wise choice. One team gets foul shots and the ball back, and the other could potentially have their player ejected.

I’m interested in knowing what you are basing this on. I haven’t looked up Harden’s FTA numbers, but here are Embiid’s for the previous two seasons:

2019-20
Regular: 8.5
Playoffs: 12.0

2020-21
Regular:10.7
Playoffs: 8.3

I don't find watching Embiid one bit boring.
