If they don't re-sign him what direction are they going in? DeMar turns 33 this off season. Zach has always been a professional and I don't think even a max becomes untradeable barring a catastrophic injury.

I was going to say this same thing. DeRozen only has another couple seasons as an elite player. Without Zach, Chicago is assuredly back as a perpetual lottery team in the next 2 or 3 seasons.

Hmmm yeah at first glance but what do you do with Trent Jr then?

I have to assume it's a sign and trade in which case Trent is surely going to be coveted. If not and it's FVV that has to go out, you use Trent to fill out the rest of the team.

Why would Chicago do that?
Actually I'm not sure that move makes sense for either team.

Anfernee Simons sign and trade with Portland could be an option. If they follow that up with the grant trade, they could be interesting. (Grant is overrated imo but the deal seems done)

Levine is from Seattle, so he might welcome a return to the north west.

Dame/ Dunn
Levine/ Nassir
Hart/ Winslow
Grant/ Watford
Nurk/ Eubanks

Plus whoever they pick at 6.

Simons is 22 but he's proven very capable of running a team and has all star potential, plus could be viewed as a long term partner with Williams. Blazers give him up to pair Dame with a shooting guard taller than 6'3 in his prime.

I like Lavine a lot, but I would S&T him for AD. It would be a gamble, but Lavine would definitely be up for it-going to the Lakers. He seems like an LA type of guy (played at UCLA).

The Port idea is VERY interesting-have not thought of that one. Ball/Simons is a workable backcourt, and it would save the Bulls a ton of $. Lavine might like it too.

As for leaving as a FA, San Antonio makes a lot of sense but doubt Lavine would go there.

The Bulls might reset, but the most likely is that they run it back-blaming health for the catastrophic post ASB season (I am assuming we MIGHT win 1 against the Bucks). We owe Orl a top 4 pick next summer, and DDR will still have value in June 2023, so I see the same basic team (maybe a Vuc trade, but I doubt we can get an upgrade). Then, if we have not improved by next spring, maybe AKME keeps Ayo, Ball and PWill and deals the rest

Damn, I just had a look at his career on-court and on/off net ratings and he has had a negative on-court net rating every single year and a positive on/off net rating only twice (and those were pretty low numbers). I like him as a player on the right team but I'd agree that he's not a true max player, as he seems more suited to be the third best player on a true contender (maybe the second best offensive player on a defense-first contender) à la Khris Middleton on the Bucks.

Other options: Utah for Mitchell if Mitchell asks out though I doubt Lavine agrees to a contract there. Lakers for AD? Denver for Murray and some pieces?

LOL at the thought of Zach Lavine or any American approving a sign and trade to Toronto.

Bill always suggest trades that favor one team over the other, unless its his celtics which always favor boston . Trading for Harden means you are signing him to a long term deal which makes the trade even worse.

LaVine isn't "that guy", he's rightfully a #2 option. Chicago can offer him the most money. Chicago basically have to resign him or pull a sign/trade but LaVine doesn't have to cooperate. Is LaVine's camp out here telling him "bro you're the man, you can lead a team to the finals!" Which team could LaVine join as a FA that could possibly put him in such a position? No way this dude who doesn't even play good defense can be that guy out of nowhere? Likely LaVine just comes back to Chicago for a ton of money and plays out the next 5 years with maybe one ECF appearance, the Dame Lillard treadmill special.

With that said I do think it's hilarious how Chicago didn't think Jimmy Butler was "the guy" to build around and traded him for LaVine. Since then Butler has only played for winning teams, made the finals. Now Chicago basically HAS to max a guy that's only been a 2x All Star, never made an All NBA, is an objectively worse player than Jimmy Butler. Like Chicago said "We think THIS is the better option for the future" and would kill to taste even half the success Butler has tasted since leaving Chicago.

Portland,OKC, Orlando and Detroit are the only teams that can offer him the max. I’m sorry I’m not leaving Chicago for those destinations

Bulls fans were ok with the move because garpax left little flexibility to build around Jimmy at that time and we had no confidence they could.

My guess is he happily stays with Chicago, but the thought of him somehow ending up in Memphis is interesting. The combo of Ja and Zach is wild

Really think it would be great to see him next to Murray in San Antonio. Gives the scoring that the Spurs really need. A couple of moves more and who knows what this team can do.

Why would Bulls trade Lavine? He’s still only 27 years old and they have the foundation of a young offensive and defensive core with Lonzo, Pat Williams, Caruso and Ayo. I can definitely see Zach playing a Devin Booker type role on a balanced team of youths and vets. The Bulls are just lacking the Chris Paul type vet that will put them into that contender status. I think everyone recognizes as great as Derozan has played, he probably has only a couple more years left and Vucevic on the inside is a disaster defensively.
