A handful of things:
- This is not his fault, and it shouldn't be held against him, but the guy sent out for him (Isaiah) was absolutely beloved
- His pseudo (to be generous) intellectual crap wore very thin
- The broken promise (don't care about this that much, personally - things change)
- He led the most joyless Celtics season I've ever experienced as a fan. Just miserable start to finish, despite an insane amount of talent.
- Throwing younger teammates under the bus
- Not taking any accountability whatsoever
- Stories (during the season, not after) of him being rude to people within the organization like Mike Gorman
- Him constantly pointing to the playoffs as a reason why fans shouldn't worry about regular season Ls
- Him having an absolutely awful first game of the playoffs, saying that'll never happen again, and each subsequent game literally being worse - have never seen someone so blatantly quit on a team
- I was so shocked by how gutless he was, I stayed up to watch the press conference after we were eliminated by the Bucks - I saw a bunch of guys on the team take blame and express regret about the season. NOTHING like that from Kyrie
(Doesn't include any of the stuff since he's left the team.)
I absolutely do not "hate" him in the real sense of the world. I'm sure he's a good guy, and I know he does good work. But Celtics fans have every reason to "sports hate" him - he's about as much a villain for a sports fandom as you can be.
