Brad was a brilliant coach, but he never got to coach a team with no exploitable players on defense...Ainge always gave him an undersized lead guard like IT, Kyrie, and Kemba, who were all bad defenders who could be targeted in the playoffs. The benches he had to work with were really uninspiring too, with very limited players who he managed to squeeze maximum production out of. Now that he's an executive, he went out and created a team he would've loved to coach.

But I'm really happy with Ime. What an absolute slam dunk hire by Brad. He's also lucky he caught the Jays at the right time, when they're ready to take the next step. Brad knew they platueaed under him, so stepping down was one of his best moves.

Good move by the Celts brass to move Stevens out of coaching (he looked plateaued and burnt out) but keeping him in the organization in a different role, as he was obviously a brilliant basketball mind.

Also remember how silly it was after they made the Ainge/Stevens move how some people thought it meant they must be looking to make some gigantic overhaul with the roster, so they were gonna ship out at least one of Brown/Tatum so they could probably be had for cheap, etc…and you had ridiculous proposals of Brown in return for some older and obviously less talented player.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Disagree, Brad is a brilliant X's and O's coach but he was not great at managing personalities and the C's had tumultuous locker rooms 3 of the past 4 seasons. He is still a very good coach, better then average but Kemba was not the reason we were not better last year, Marcus smart was on the team, Ainge had to trade away Thies to get brad to play Williams. Brad is a good coach, not saying Ime is better or worse yet, but the effect of the coaching this season vs last clearly favors Ime. We will see if he can keep getting players to listen to him or they eventually zone him out like some had done to Brad the last couple of years.

Why are we talking about his skin colour in this thread?
Got anything to do with his success with the celtics?

I always find people that complain about others bringing up race are actually the ones doing so. people love to be offended for no reason

I went through each post: ONE person responded they "love seeing black coaches succeed" and any other post about race was a joke at Jason Williams' expense. literally nothing else until your post

I think the intention of the previous poster was alluding to the fact that it was being brought up at all (earlier in the thread). Not that you are a racist.

And everyone hated him first 2 months of the season. People here are so quick to jump off ship when it comes to players and coaches. DeRozan underperforms in one game - he is biggest choker ever, KAT has bad game - he is paper tiger, Udoka as first time HC, has growing pains - he is trash. Never change RealGM, I buy it will take Boston 2 loses for everyone to trash Udoka and maybe Tatum again haha, thats just how it goes around here.

Smart, Brown, Tatum, Rozier, Williamses …. all we’re lucky to have Brad Stevens as coach for development. At some point it gets stagnant with all coaches and Brad was there for 7 years. To get to next the level they needed a former player who has been there before to get to this level. Ime gets these guys and his personality and the personality of the team fit like a glove. His strategy for taking out the Nets and his unwillingness to give a crap about seeding sent the right message for this team. How far they advance is all about them.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Well, let's agree to disagree. I really think the disconnect in philosophy between the front office and Brad was to blame, seeing as how Brad has been the anti-Ainge as an executive; he is not bringing in anyone under 6'3", and he's not hoarding picks and just grabbing up useful players even if it comes at the cost of the future. Brad had to work with a lot of uninspiring rosters on paper, and the fact that he was able to 3 ECFs during that time proves he wasn't overrated at all. I mean, Brad had little choice but to play guys like Thompson, Jabari, and Fournier last year, that's how **** the hand he was dealt.

I said it on the Knicks board, I love this new generation of coaches with Udoka, Jenkins, Monty, Lue and a couple others.

They're much more flexible, pragmatic and bold than the previous generation of coaches, besides Spo and to a lesser extent Kerr.

The irony is he was right under the nets noses and they kept Nash over him. Dantoni was the reason for their offensive success last season and this guy was doing a terrific job for them in the playoffs on defense. The nets had a great defensive out put in the playoffs last season

Well to credit Udoka, he probably would've turned down the Nets job knowing how much of a carousel the Net have been this year. I mean who would've thought that Kyrie was gonna go nuts and refuse to get vaccinated? Udoka wouldn't have been able to save that team and Harden waived the white flag once Durant got hurt and Irving was gonna stick to his guns. Plus it didn't help that they only allowed Irving to play road games once Durant threw a tantrum and not being able to consistently develop chemistry due to the laws at the time didn't help. Funny enough NYC removed them once the Yankees threw a hissy fit due to Aaron Judge being in the same camp as Irving.

Honestly him going to Boston was the best thing that could've happened to him because at least he has the support of not only Brad Stevens, but most importantly ownership. The players buying in has helped massively as well due not to mention bringing in high character vets such as Derrick White along with familiar faces such as Al Horford and Daniel Theis have been huge in getting the Celtics back on track. Making Smart a decision maker at the point and using Al to mentor RW III has been huge. Plus he's gotten Tatum and Brown to work and play smarter which is nice to see.

I don't think he would've gotten that in Brooklyn largely because Kyrie and Durant "don't need a coach to succeed" apparently. I know Nash has been awful, but when you have 1 guy in Irving who's a cornerstone of the team that doesn't want to listen and Durant follows along with it, it's a losing situation and no rising star in the coaching ranks would want to deal with that nonsense.

two huge developments

Stevens going to GM and making some bold moves with bringing back two players in Thiess/Hordford, moving Fournier, and grabbing white, Some massive moves in terms of grabbing guys who clearly loved boston, Boston Loved, firsty played D and didnt care about offensive touches

Ime Udoka really doing some interesting coaching things, Williams as a roving player able to guard baseline shooters, utilizing smart/Brown/Williams and finding great defensive roles for everyone has been huge

Remember those bull threads about Tatum/Brown are 23 years old and it hasnt worked? Suddenly you are thinking of Tatum being the weak link in a defense? If a player as long and athletic as Tatum is the "Weak link" good luck

Not going to lie. Me among others were not happy how the season started for obvious reasons and when they were losing he pointed the finger at the players and only until they lost to the G League Timberwolves one game be said he had to coach to better. He was filling out lineups with no shooting then it all changed.Maybe they just needed guys to obviously play better but fit...aka dumping Schroder..ball stopper to get the team on the same page.
