This is a terrible list. How is Jalen Green 31 and Edwards in the top 9, even though Green looked just as good as Edwards did to end their rookie seasons.

I’m not buying it.
But Luka is younger and paid less right now. Luka isn't ahead because he's better.
I think Simmons underrated Lebron's value, he would push a lot of teams to championship level still. Not convinced that the Bucks wouldn't trade Jrue for Lebron straight up.
I also don't like the categories, because he can't even respect them. What is Ivey doing in the category of guys who only show up in the regular season? He's a rookie... Simmons just had to put him somewhere.
But this is an impossible exercise. No one can get it perfectly.
If you listen to the podcast, Russillo calls him out on the Ivey bit and other parts. He also says he values Jrue higher than most. I’m not convinced the Bucks trade for Lebron but at the same time, there is no way Lakers trade Lebron for Jrue.
Overall it’s pretty good. Everyone will have different lists and people are open to their own opinion.

He has the #3 sports podcast and he sold 51% of his site “The Ringer” to Spotify 3 years ago for $200MM. He’s doing pretty well for himself.
God damn!
I knew he had money but nothing like that. What does he talk about on his podcast?
The reason I ask is I stopped reading him as I found him very repetitive and frankly that he was out of things to say. Is it still strictly gambling, pop culture, hoops/football.
I'm curious to see his audience demos. I started reading him when I was in college. I'm solidly middle aged now. Is it olds like me listening or has he found a way to appeal to current college bros

jokic is a better player than luka (though it is very close). but does luka get points for being younger, perhaps?
Of course Luka gets points for being younger, but the point is, it’s not close. The difference in PER between Jokic and Luka is the same as the difference between Luka and Jalen Brunson, and Jokic effects the game much more in ways that aren’t measured by the box score. Luka has a loooooong way to go to ever be as good as Jokic is right now.

That’s definitely the majority of it, yeah. He has a lot of good guests though. All the top sports analysts come on and then he’ll get A-list celebrities once in a while like a Matt Damon or a Kevin Durant. I’d imagine his audience is mostly people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s that have been listening to him for a while but I’m sure there’s a spectrum. I listen to a lot of podcasts while I play online poker and he and Zach Lowe are easily my 2 favorite podcasts that aren’t…. (cough) pro wrestling.

Yeah Ivey needs to start proving he can play in the playoffs and not just always play in good in the regular season.
Time is ticking though as he's not getting any younger

He doesn't care about regular season as much as some people do on these forums, he's a different player in the playoffs.
But anyway, i have no clue how Simmons thinks or how he did this. I guess everyone will have their own opinion, which is perfectly fine.

He actually explained this on his podcast. He said he didn't know where to put Ivey, but that he thinks Ivey is more valuable that the guys behind him, but wouldn't trade any of the guys in front of him straight up for him.

The Mavs just made the WCF's, beating the #1 ranked Suns in a series that Luka was as dominant as any player in the playoffs. That definitely gave him a boost

Re: Bill Simmons' "Trade Value List", 2022 edition
Lebron is way too low.
Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday at 19-20? No chance in hell.
Marcus Smart shouldn't even be on the list, #47. Celtics Homerism.
Kat is too low
Gobert who they said we gave up way too much for is still 25th so what should we have given up??
Anthony Davis way too high.
He's way too high on the now 2nd year guys. Cade, Barnes, Mobley. Mobley is good, but 8th?

That's a decent list. I agree with most of his trade valuations.

Luka just took down the Suns team that swept Jokic last year.

When you consider all the factors involved this is a very tough list to make. Top player ranking is much easier.

His lists aren’t the end all and be all. They are meant for discussion. I am entertained by him but don’t take him seriously. I do think he has good points that get overlooked by traditional media guys and former nba players. I like the balance that him and Ryan Risselo have on their podcasts. Anyways I won’t make too much of a big deal over some trade value list that he has done for years even before he made it to ESPN.

Does Simmons still refuse to hire minorities at the Ringer, or...?

The list is just garbage. Group F is better than group E among the many flaws.

Yeah Seth Curry, Dillon Brooks, and Wendell Carter, Jr. definitely belong in the same tier of trade value as Keegan Murray, Anfernee Simons, and Kuminga.
