I don't think Draymond is the guy that is going to come in and play 110% and rally the troops on a rebuilding team. If he bought all in, he's the guy you want doing it though, especially given that franchise's history and identity, and his ties to the state.

true- but this young pistons team has a lot of talent. They won't be contending for a few seasons, but don't be surprised if they improve significantly

Everyone clowns on Draymond but anyone who has ever lost all nba defense in their frontcourt knows, significant identity shift back there. His ego exploded this summer but GS has to keep him.

When does that ever work out?

If you want a mentor, hire an assistant coach. Don't spend a large amount of cap on a guy that's not gonna help you on the floor when it's time.

Draymond would just get fat in Detroit and be focused on his media career.

If they wanted to do the Redick thing next summer and just give him a huge one year deal it could work, but after that is Cade's last year of his rookie deal and you assume they'd want to bring someone in that would help out longer term.

The Pistons signing Draymond at this point would be the equivalent of the Bulls signing Ben Wallace back in the day.

Anyway, if it is true, it's smart for Draymond and his camp to throw this out there because the Pistons are one of the few teams that will likely have the cap space and willingness to sign him to the deal he wants.

It's as good time as any, I mean you don't just magically jump from a bottom feeder to a contender. As for working out, Paul Millsap was same age as Draymond when he got (over)paid by the Nuggets and it still worked out for both.

Is this the report? I could see the Pistons offer him a big frontloaded, but not fully guaranteed 3 year deal, in case GSW lowballs him and only offers him a short extension.

We've seen Draymond on a rebuilding team that has no chance. It wasn't pretty for anyone. He also played completely uninspired.

If we win next year I can't see him opting out of his player option and not trying for a 3 peat and if we don't win, not sure how he can expect an extension.

Tough spot but he's underpaid compared to what klay got.

Isn't he from Detroit? Maybe he will retire there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him more frequently in Toronto if he goes to the Pistons.

Obviously it would depend on Draymond's intentions but I'm assuming that he would be on board with helping out with the rebuilding process for a year or two. Just from an on court and mentorship perspective I think it's a fit on paper.

This is comical.

The question is will Detroit give him a max?

It would be the beginning of being two years away from being two years away if they did!

If he's looking to win it's one thing, if he's looking to get a big paycheck it's another though, depends on what he expects at this point

There's been smoke about him going to Detroit for a while now, wouldn't be a bad move for him at all down the line with the young squad the Pistons have.

This is exactly the type of team where I think Draymond provides value at the contract price he wants.

He needs to be on a young, up and coming team, who would benefit from having his veteran presence, but at the same time won't be handcuffed by his contract.

He also has the Michigan roots, so it makes a lot of sense in my opinion.

Agreed. As good as some of the Warriors young guys are a core of Cade/Bey/Ivey/Duren is far more promising.

Regardless of what purpose this is for,

Re the release of this report & its timing,

Good move for Draymond. Good move for the Pistons.

Dray gonna get paid, anyone who thinks he'd take a paycut doesn't know what he's about.

If Ivey hits on his projections, then that team is gonna be pretty damn solid in 2 years.
