Uh Sabonis is better and may always be better, and definitely fits with Fox more (Fox looked like an all star post trade). That chapter isnt written

Eh, that's still to be determined. Sabonis is good, no doubt. Is he better than Haliburton, or did he just have more opportunity? When Haliburton was the lead guard for the Pacers (no Brogdon) he was at 19/10/4 with 2 steals on 51/46/89 shooting splits in roughly 20 games. He also said it's the first time in his life that when he shot bad, he was told to keep shooting. It's going to have some learning curve, obviously. This will be his first opportunity at a role equivalent to what Sabonis and Fox have had. He thinks he will be 20-10 this year, and I don't see why not.

Given Sabonis is a strong bodied big with limited range it would make him a fit in the 90's, but today I think most teams would lean towards Haliburton archetype. So if he does reach 20-10, or even 20-9, which I think are realistic as he clearly has been given the keys ..... I think it becomes a pretty big toss up on which is better, honestly. With the tie breaker for most people going to the guy with the archetype of Haliburton.

Whats the archetype for a big man running an offense and being able to form a master p'n'r with your PG (half Jokic half what?)? Sabonis is working on his range, and I don't see why that cant be improved either.

I just said it was a toss up on who it will benefit, unfortunately thats not the public tone of the trade hence why I replied.

That's fair enough, I think it was a trade that made sense for all involved, but I think the archetype is why people favor it on the Pacers side. As someone who's seen 90% of Sabonis career he struggles with length and athleticism because of his short arms/lack of athleticism. It's why he was an exceptionally poor combo with Brogdan who is similar.

But I do not share your optimism that he can improve much, because he is the son of a Hall of Famer, he has had the best coaching/teaching since he was a small child. I think if he was going to be a capable shooter, he would have already figured it out.

Your acting like he was a typical big barely shooting anything outside range. Its not that far he has to creep up from .324 at 2 and a half attempts a game he was at in Indiana last season. Its offseason and many say this about their players but he's looked good in the footage with his trainers

I don't even know Tyrese's "archetype"? He isnt strong defensively and has questionable athleticism for a PG and not really strong breaking down defenses at the point of attack with a non strong handle for the position. He does have excellent BBIQ though. I thought of him more a playmaking SG for most his career, but his assists have been improving, for sure.

Tyrese is younger but big men have longer careers. If the Kings can't re-sign Sabonis this will look bad for the Kings either way. But if Sabonis stays it will be seen in team improvement. Fox looked like an all star paired in the two man game with Sabonis and wasnt functioning with Tyrese.

Not all 3 point shots are equal. Of his 2.0 three point attempts per game, 1.6 of them were taken without a defender within 6 feet of him. On those wide open shots he hit 35%. For that 0.4 shots to drop him down to 31%, it had to be a pretty awful % shooting with a hand in his face.

So that's the obstacle, even if he starts to hit at a better clip wide open, he then has to do it and prove he can do it with a hand in his face after the defense adjusts. It's a long road, not nearly as simple as you want to make it sound.

**EDIT** Like I said I've watched his career. I knew the defense just ignored him out there, but I wanted to find the #'s to back it up. I wasn't the least bit shocked he was wide open on 80% of those shots.

I don't think we need to bash Sacramento or have a Haliburton v. Sabonis debate everytime we bring up that Haliburton is the Pacers franchise player for the foreseeable future. I really hope the Fox/Sabonis pairing is successful for the Kings.

It's Miller Haliburton time!

:pityfool:

They're going to need to put some defense around him as he seems similar to Brogdon defensively, which is not great.

Tyrese Haliburton - Bennedict Mathurin - Jalen Smith is the future Steph - Klay - Dray. :tooth

wouldn’t it be even more confusing if Indiana wanted him to be the face of the Pacers for the rest of his career like Steve Nash?

The better they hit the park on those pieces in the draft, the better the chances are that Haliburton will play for them for his whole career.

I think every prospect is 1-3" shorter than listed.

Pistons board had many threads derailed from 6'8" Cade, when he's probably 6'5" and a half.

I guess if everyone lies, then its just noise. But if half the guys are giving real heights and the other half are added 3 inches, might as well do away with height. We can look on the floor and see who is taller.

They play nothing alike. There is more chance of him being the next Jamal Tinsley or Travis Best then Reggie.

I love Halliburtons game. I have been on the Halliburton train since the very beginning of his sophomore season and you can go back into my post history to see that I would have taken him #2 after Anthony Edwards in that draft... still would!

The Knicks picking Obi Toppin (who I love too) over him in the 2020 draft was the closest I've come to tears as a fan that I can honestly remember. Out of all the stupid ass moves the Knicks have made over my lifetime, that says A LOT!

Everything was lined up, we were desperate for a point guard, as we have been for pretty much my entire 33 year old life, and here was a legit tall point guard who could shoot, play off ball, facilitate, play defense, had a good head on his shoulders, worked hard, and loved the game...and we passed him up for another Power Forward. An older one at that, who still isn't as polished and probably never will be. Not picking Halliburton is going to go down as one of the biggest blunders in Knicks history, for me. It was right there and it was so obvious. It's not like picking Ntlikina over Mitchell, or picking Knox over Bridges/Porter Jr. (both absolutely terrible in hindsight), Halliburton DROPPED to us!! The fact that he went 12 is absolutely insane to me.

...and now he's on the frickin' Pacers, and they are hoping for him to become the next Reggie Miller... the most hated player in my lifetime... it makes me sick!
Go Knicks!

There was a strong contingent here in Philly to make the Simmons for Halliburton + trade. Seems to have nearly happened the very day everything went down, according to Tyrese’s account of the info he was getting. And with Simmons’ unicorn potential, getting him out of the conference seemed to be a good move. Of course, the threat of what he could do for the Nets got unexpectedly delayed. And, mainly, Daryl was greatly movtivated to re-implement what had almost worked for him in Houston. We’ll see how that goes. But I do think the Pacers and the Kings may have made the rare mutually beneficial move here.

Why is Haliburton's sister better than him too?
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their
shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and
you'll have their shoes.

I too, like to respond without reading the actual information sometimes.

It is not a comparison of skill set, it's a hopeful comparison of impact on a franchise and longevity.

Sorry, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but come on... Haliburton is just a fantastic player.

After 3 games he's averaging 26/4/10 + 2 steals, on 50/41/95 shooting splits.

You know what, I love Anthony Edwards, but Haliburton seems like he's on his way to being the best player from his draft class.

He will be an All-Star and win the MIP award this year. Book it.
