But yeah, not gonna lie, we’ve all done that, especially at 21, making fun of people for appearing different, a lot of times just to make people around us laugh cuz we think it’s funny. But I mean, even when I was a kid, I wouldn’t want to advertise my clearly uncalled for comments for everyone to hear, that just makes me look like an ass hole. Especially not if I’m using offensive language.

But then I grew up and that stuff just isn’t funny anymore. But hey, he’s only 21, he’s got a lot of growing up to do, seems like a guy willing to learn from his mistakes.

What really concerns me about stuff like this is that homophobia is treated different than racism. People in the LGBTQ+ community are born that way like someone is born black, or asian. The difference is, society would cancel a 21 year old public figure for using a racial slur, but homophobia? “boys will be boys”, “he’s young and dumb”, etc.

I do think cooler heads should prevail in general though. A 21 year old is an idiot, no matter what their IQ may be. They just have almost no life experience, and their brains, especially as a male, aren’t fully developed yet.

I wouldn’t agree with cancelling them regardless of what stupid stuff they said, as long as they show the ability to be better, which he’s doing. People do change and learn, and get better with more life experience, I don’t think it’s fair to just write people off for saying something bad, at least the first time around.

FWIW I completely agree. I think he's a good kid who clearly has some bias that he hasn't fully thought through - that's really typical for this age. It's obviously not okay, and I think he knows that.

Pretty much take anything a Sports Athlete says with a huge grain of salt.

He'd have to apologize regardless. Pretty much NBA apologies are business PR, and no one here would have any idea on how genuine he is in his statement.

At the end of the day NBA athletes are not role models and expecting thousands of players to have the same beliefs as you do is pretty silly regardless of what they say in media.

All this is really going to do is he's not going to be an idiot and air his dirty laundry out if the statement isn't genuine.
