... and speaking of the Spurs ... don't forget Matt Bonner .... especially if the list construction is a little loose

lol I have a feeling that PG picked himself just to mess with the internet, and if he did. Well done. Anyways, joke or not I gotta say I'd go with Pippen or Kawhi over him at the 3.

I don't disagree with the choice of Gary Payton, but Jason Kidd is right up there with him if you ask me, and so is Stockton.

Then at the 4 I'm going to go with Tim Duncan.

Best choices that come to mind not yet mentioned: CP3, Havlicek, Kareem.

Didn't he just admit like a week ago that he wasn't THAT guy and needed to be a number 2?
And now he puts himself in that top 5?

While he wouldn't be in my starting 5, I don't think Paul George is that far off. He'd be on the short list at his position.

Other players that come to mind at each position:

1: Kidd, Walt Frazier, Chris Paul, Stockton, Jrue Holiday
2: Jerry West, Manu Ginobili, Wade
3: Pippen, Lebron, Kawhi, Jimmy Butler
4: Giannis, McHale, Anthony Davis, Bobby Jones
5: Duncan, Wilt, David Robinson, Bill Walton

I wasn't able to watch Oscar Robertson, but he'd be a strong candidate at the 1.

Do you have a strong opinion on Big O's defense?

I don't think he was a bad defender, but never when watching old footage have I come away thinking he was an obvious plus. He had size, good hands and feet, but never seemed particularly engaged, disruptive, or smart on that end. His Royals teams were usually at the bottom of the league defensively. His Bucks teams were really good defensively, but that was with young Kareem and a good defensive supporting cast. I've honestly never thought of Big O as a defensive player.

Jerry West was the baddie on defense of that era.

Scottie was mediocre at best on offense, especially in the playoffs. Last 3 seasons in Chicago his playoff TS numbers looked like 50%, 52%, 47% on low volume scoring. Top 5 defender list absolutely, but I wouldn't put him on a 2-way list either.

I want to say Artest is comparable to Pippen here, but maybe not

It’s good that he puts himself in there. The answer is obviously Lebron but he’d look “soft” if he said another active player over him, and his LA rival.

Cant argue with this. Pippen and Leonard are the best defensive 3s ive ever seen. Pippen had the length with great instincts. Leonard has the strength to guard bigger 4s.

It's like when Dominique picked himself with the 1st or 2nd overall pick (can't remember which) during the TNT all time draft, LOL. These dumbies think it shows a lack of self confidence when you don't consider yourself the #1 in the world.

Right? All it shows is delusion and a lack of awareness.

I understand why he had himself higher than Pippen and Lebron because he is so much better on offense than Pippen and so much better than Lebron on defense. But he's not better than Kawhi at his peak because Kawhi was better on both ends. Before Kawhi got injured he had a chance to get in the top 10 mostly due to how great a defender he was. As great as Hakeem was he was no Wilt who probably averaged 8-10 blocks a game and is the most dominant offensive force the game has ever known. KG is the superior defender and offensive player to Duncan.

Payton
MJ
Kawhi
KG
Wilt
