We took the L by drafting him. Haliburton was the obvious choice. We had Vassel, Dani, Maxey, and various other options.

Concerning the trade, it sounded good. He would not have too many opportunities with Randle on the team and he wants to get paid next year. He is not a great option playing 15 minutes a night to spread the floor. Easily replaceable.

We needed cap space to stay away from the tax.

Every time I've watched Toppin play for the Knicks, he's looked pretty good.
Not great but like a legit rotation guy.
All I ever heard out of NY though was they can't wait to dump him.
Don't really get it tbh.
Hopefully he can find a niche in Indy because he's one of the best in-game dunkers in the league if nothing else.

He’s going to break out on Pacers. Thibs hate him and Knicks fans rather watching Randle not play defense than Obi so enjoy him Indy. He’s actually going to get into pick and rolls in a spread offense now.

How does a top 8 pick, 4 year college pro, not get playing time for 3 years? If he were actually any good, he would have played and gotten opportunities.

Austin Reaves went undrafted and somehow became a starter on a contending team within 2 years. What’s Obi’s excuse? What’s the Knicks excuse for drafting another bust again?

He’s a nice young talent but his defense stinks so until he fixes that he may be an empty stats energy guy. Good low risk move for Indy. NYK are looking for 2-way guys.

He continually outplayed Randle. Thibs just hated him and gave him no leash while Randle got unlimited leash. Obi would make one defensive mistake, boom taken out of the game.

He has one year left on his contract. My guess is that they didn't want to pay him more to continue being a bench player. Also, he probably wanted a better opportunity.

I know you’re a Knicks fan but at least be objective. They drafted Frank over Donovan Mitchell man lol.

Yeah, definitely, but he’s going to have to get a lot better on D if he wants to get a big second contract and solidify himself as a starter. Great gamble for Indy.

I think Knicks pivot to sign DD and then look to move IQ/Fournier for a guy like OG…. (Which would have left Obi without a role on the Knicks)

Yeah and majority of Knicks fans are pissed off that is all we got. Its because he had an altercation with Thibs in playoffs, plus Knicks trying to clear cap space right now.
