Go United States of America!

(Not to get Embiid, just to win the gold medal.)

Summary of Embiid’s options where he holds citizenship in each:

Cameroon: his home country where he was born and his family is from. Spent his childhood there til age 16.

USA: where he moved to at age 16 and has has spent his adult life. has played his entire bball career in high school, college, and the nba in the USA.

France: never lived or worked there, given citizenship a couple of years ago under “exceptional foreigner” clause. French players think it’s ridiculous he can play for France while having no ties to the country.

France: Embiid has lot of close family living in France, and I'm sure he has been visiting there quite frequently. He speaks French and I belive cameronians share a closer bond with France as the country is part of "francophone". I wouldn't be surprised at all if he would choose France.

Yeah, I think it's fine that he can play for France. He has citizenship. Imho, that should be the requirement. I don't really follow amateur sports, but aren't there lots of players who play for a country for which they don't have citizenship? Can someone help me with this answer?

Siakam and Embiid on Cameroon’s team at least gives them a puncher’s chance against most other national teams. Would love to see this guys team up for their country of origin.

He should play for the country he was born and raised in. Unless there is something I'm unaware of that is an extenuating circumstance. This entire thing of picking which country to play for is beyond ridiculous

Υeah every country is allowed one naturalised player, which can be basically anyone from anywhere, usually Americans. They just give them a passport.

Some countries refuse to have one, I think from memory France never had one, but I might be wrong. If anything they have bigs coming out their butt between Gober/Wemby/Fall/Lesort and a couple of others, I understand why the players might be pissed off if they just give away a spot to someone completely out of the system and with no real ties to the country. I wouldn't do it, if you have an extra spot just give it to a young guy like Sarr.

Then again this France team looked kinda cooked in the World Cup, so maybe they'll try something radical.

Want a real win: USA (they lost, but still best chance to find some glory in case never win in the NBA)
Rest more, less pressure, pride: Cameroon (nothing to lose, do well and you're a hero, very likely less games)
Some people just want to watch the world burn: France (no connection/loyalty, just play spoiler to the US)

So, all players do actually have to be citizens of the country for which they play?

Because they have zero shot at a medal he suffered enough embarrassment being on the Sixers and losing every year in the playoffs.

There would be no pressure tho, an early exit either France would be more embarrassing

Yes, technically. Even the naturalised one must receive a passport. That's my understanding of it anyway.

Gobert C. Wemby Pf and Embiid comes in first off the bench for Wemby at PF

He shouldn't commit to any team until Lorenzo Brown decides if he's avalable to play with Spain this summer.

He should play for Cameroon as they could use his talents way more on their squad..France is looking to be on the come up with a number of young freaks rolling through different leagues, notably Wemby, but check out Alex Sarr if you haven’t already..will be playing for Perth in the NBL this year..so that would be interesting too.

Embiid would also be a "naturalised" player on the US roster since he didn`t have a us passport under the age of 16.

Franchises simply can`t block players from competing in FIBA Basketball anymore.

Embiid playing for France or USA would be so gross.
