I loved DDV on the Warriors. There was no way we could keep him. But wow was it a great fit.

They could not match anything close to the Knicks offer, he was on the tax payer MLE so were limited on the raise they could give him

GSW was above the second tier. They could not give him the tax MLE.

Same situation Denver faced with Bruce Brown

That's a good comparison. Would you really take him over Herro

depends, do you want someone that plays defense or someone that doesn't play defense?

Then you need to factor the contract, one makes 11 mil the other 30 mil

That's what I'm saying, he's a potential 30mil player getting paid only 11M for the next 4 seasons.

That's a bargain of a deal

With the non-Bird exception they could offer him $5.4M for 23-24 season. The Knicks gave him twice that.

The craziness of it all is that if he didn't injure his foot during the Bucks title run, he would've gotten a far bigger contract. A shame it happened, but it's nice to see him bounce back on the Warriors to show that he recovered from the foot injury and is thriving in New York with his Villanova teammates Brunson+Hart.

Knicks have long-term great deal contracts next year over Brunson - $25M/yr; Mitchell Robinson - $14M/yr; Josh Hart $18M/yr; DiVincenzo $11M/yr; McBride $4.7M/yr;

(Brunson + DiVincenzo + Hart) adds up to $54M/yr, less than Curry's $55.7M and comparable to Kawhi/Jokic/Embiid/James/Durant/Beal', all making >$50M.

I will say I've always liked his game, and the Knicks getting a bunch of Villanova guys who bring that chemistry has been a really nice story.

Not exactly, he didn't win a championship in GS. He did in Milwaukee, on a scooter from the sideline. So the Bucks & his agent couldn't agree on the extension number. Traded him to SAC for picks & Chez Ibaka. :nonono:

Donte plays defense. You take Donte on Herro's contract.

Warriors screwed up not resigning him

The Kings screwed up not resigning him.

I feel like I was in the minority that was championing for the Kings to trade for him (since he was having a down year with his injury). I was thrilled when we actually got him and that excitement very quickly turned to disappointment when we simply let him walk (especially since he only signed for $4.5 mil per year with the Warriors).

Instead of locking up DiVincenzo and having a really solid, young 3&D SG who can also handle the ball, pass, and rebound next to Fox, we decided to trade a 1st round pick for Huerter. I don’t think that trade was egregious in a vacuum but when it basically comes down to rather having DiVincenzo & a 1st or Huerter, the answer was pretty easy for me.

Luckily for us, we may have found our own DiVincenzo type of player in Ellis but it definitely wouldn’t hurt to have two of those guys on the roster since they can play multiple positions.

Since getting moved into the starting lineup he has averaged 19/4/3 on 61 ts% a 120 o rating/114 d rating while making 4+ threes a game on 14 fg attempts per game over 63 games...

This is gonna sound wild, but those are prime Klay Thompson numbers!

Klay is bigger, so has more options defensively, but Dante is quicker and is also a really good defensive player.
Go Knicks!
