1 major injury can be pretty devastating to a smaller guard. Smart on Brunson to take the $$ now, and $156 mil is no small amount. He will still be getting paid nearly 40 mil a year.

He would have had to wait an entire season to earn that contract. That's not cap circumvention. It might be if we got to next year and then he took one hundred million less rather than the max.

Personally I feel like this is kind of dumb, 4/113 in today's market is maybe the 4th or 5th best player in on a championship commands. Hartenstein got a similar amount (per year). They aren't a Hartenstein away from a title. Vegas has New York fifth and they are capped out, so it's really a luxury tax break for the owner or incentive to keep the current roster together?
