Smart move. Cavs are already locked in cap wise, might as well get the 23 year old locked in. No pressure Kenny to help him reach his potential.

These 25% rookie maxes usually turn out fine. Even more so in the next period when the cap is going up 10% each year.

Thats a lot for someone who literally hasnt progressed and remained the same since he got to the league. Could call him the most consistent player in the league, which isnt necessarily a bad thing but he is what he is

Were most these good young players getting max second contract? Because I do not remember it being s thing, maybe I am wrong? Lots of changes been made on this over the years to help teams keep their own talent in theory, but it seem to have very negative effect where teams have no other option than overpay. In the past, a lot of negative contracts were from FA. Now its mostly extensions.

This contract just reminded again how underpaid Jalen Brunson truly was. The fact that he's making less money than Even Mobley and other young players that are simply as of now above average players with the upside of being all star level player just speak to how much of a sacrifice Brunson made.

Mobley has improved a ton offensively but JB isn’t a coach that can adapt or change a system and players will always have the same roles and responsibilities under him.

I think under new coaching we could see a breakout, not in terms of development but in terms of how he’s featured

Tax isn't the issue; that's nothing. It's the fact that the cavs are now in the 2nd Apron once the ext kicks in. You're locked into that team with VERY minimal avenues to tweak it and Garland is probably the biggest trade piece you have.

We'll see how Kenny does.

With all that being said though, yeah Barnes is better.

He had a strong season. He hasn't broken out yet but it's a no brainer.
